Directors prefer flashier Directing. Especially the DGAs usually prefer flashier Directors. I think that’s why Bigelow is The only female Director who won. Her Directing style is great action scenes and a lot of tension and suspense

The only one?? Lool, you need to update the news, Zhao literally won last year.

Timothee Chalamet was miscast as Laurie in Little Women.

    I don’t think that’s unpopular at all.

Oscars bait movies are as generic and formulaic as every Marvel/Franchise movies.

-Throw in some names like Martin Scorserse etc as director
    -October-December release date
    -Plot revolves around:

Historically monumental moments (both World Wars, Holocaust, Slavery)
A Biopic about famous person in History (Could be athlete, scientists, former president)
Addressing sensitive subject matter (LGBTQ+, Feminism, Mental Health, Slavery)

    Featuring Physical Transformation
Notably distributed by Searchlight, TWC or Focus Features although other Studios could have one as well

FYC-Nightmare Alley in All Categories (Best Picture, Guillermo Del Toro for Best Director, Bradley Cooper for Best Actor, Cate Blanchett for Best Actress, Rooney Mara for Best Supporting Actress, Richard Jenkins for Best Supporting Actor)

FYC-Last Night in Soho (Edgar Wright for Best Director, Thomasin McKenzie for Best Actress, Anya Taylor Joy for Best Supporting Actress, Edgar Wright and Krysty Wilson Cairns for Best Original Screenplay)

Mulligan is a fantastic actress who was miscast in Promising Young Woman, a film that I genuinely thought could have been far more vicious and scathing. There’s this great article which basically says everything I think about the film. Still, with Manks and Trial of the Chicago 7s stinking up the lineup, it was hard for me to begrudge PYW getting in.

Stab me in the eyeballs, that is no article. That is a self important college essay, an indulgent blog post if you’re generous. And it does nothing to advance the discourse around PYW and simply rehashes what other sexist pigs said about Mulligan’s casting. Imagine taking a position whereby PYW was both too serious and too frivolous at the same time, just to look smart by being contrarian.

And I can keep going back with this.

Exactly. What about Anne Bancroft in The Pumpkin Eater? I love Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins, but merely playing an iconic role shouldn’t equate to Oscars. Anne Bancroft’s role is so challenging and complex, it stunned me they had female roles like that in the 60’s.

Frances McDormand is only a good actress and not versatile at all. With 3 Oscars, she’s incredibly overrated.

I agree. But she was lucky that she was in 3 movies adored by Oscars.

I disagree, I thought the article was excellent and brought lots of insights.

I think it’s weird that so many people said “she is not hot enough”. For example: I agree with David Fincher when he said “Scarlett Johansson is too beautiful for Lisbeth Salander”.

Eh he’s bland looking both then and now.

He does look better not that he’s older and filled out more though.

I’m sure he looks better than most people on this forum. Including…nevermind.

I doubt now. He looked his greatest ever in The Departed like he got muscles. But most of his life, he is chubby and he is not working out
