I agree. But nobody can copy that. That movie was the worst ever and only made that money because it was 3 generations together. Carrie Fisher is dead so no for Star Wars. Han Solo is dead too. Christopher Reeve is dead too so no for Superman. Maybe Superman if they use Henry Cavill plus Tom Welling plus 1 Superman more. Maybe Batman if they use Michael Keaton plus Ben Affleck plus Christian Bale

The Expendables 3 tried to do that and failed. Cobra Kai was the most successful and it did before Marvel. Creed did that but it was mid. Same with Rambo. These days, Hollywood only does NOSTALGIA. That’s why I love PROMETHEUS. PROMETHEUS wasn’t nostalgia and it was different and ultra modern

Are Kate Winslet and Cate Blanchett really two of the greatest actresses?

I don’t understand why some of y’all are watching movies for the actors’ performances. Like, why watch a film you know you will hate just to come here and say « yeah [insert actor’s name] was fabulous however this is the worst film I’ve ever seen ».

I will shamelessly watch any movie that has my favorite actors in prominent roles. Thats the case for some people here

    FYC:
Best Director: Edgar Wright, Guillermo Del Toro, Jane Campion
Best Picture: Nightmare Alley, The Power of the Dog
Best Actress: Kristen Stewart, Thomasin McKenzie, Rooney Mara, Tessa Thompson
Best Actor: Benedict Cumberbatch, Bradley Cooper
Best S. Actress: Cate Blanchett, Diana Rigg, Anya Taylor Joy
Best S. Actor: Kodi Smit McPhee, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins

I agree with you and I’ll even go as far as to say it’s not shameful to do so. Art is always subjective.

That’s the case for 90% of the World. That’s why The Rock and Vin Diesel are so successful when all of their movies are shit(The General Public loves The Rock and Vin Diesel

I think they are outstanding of course, but I feel like Nicole Kidman, Judy Davis, Alfre Woodard, Emily Watson, and Angela Bassett are even better but most of these ladies don’t have the filmography to match Cate & Kate.

Unpopular on GD: I absolutely liked American Hustle and thought everyone did a fantastic job. Lawrence was the MVP imo.

West Side Story is not the sole greatest movie musical of all time but it’s certainly up there with Cabaret, Chicago and Moulin Rouge!

The whole “I dont get their hype/appeal” takes are annoying

Jlo was just ok in Hustlers. One of the most overrated performances of 2019. Just because she finally made a decent film after 20 years doesn’t mean she was “snubbed”

Unfortunately, actors become brands. Jennifer’s brand doesn’t scream ‘Oscar,'” Leonardo DiCaprio and Viola Davis are examples of actors who do have such a brand.

When it comes to Oscar attention, there’s a level of humility that can be tough to hit. You have to want the award, but not too much, lest you be seen as calculating and ambitious. Here’s the thing about Jennifer Lopez, though: We like her because of her ambition! That hustle, drive, and self-possession is an inextricable part of her star persona, and any attempt to play it down just wouldn’t feel true.

    Lopez is already on top

Unfortunately, Oscar voters aren’t as beguiled: When so much of your public persona is about having it all, there isn’t much of an urge to give you something else. Academy voters like to feel like they’re a crucial part of a nominee’s journey, and with Lopez, they’ve never quite been there. At the beginning of her career, she was willing to call out actresses who may not have forgiven those slights. Now, at her peak, Lopez wears her crown so evidently that the academy felt no need for further

This isn’t an unpopular opinion but I’ll still say it: Gal Gadot is not a good actor. She was solid in the first Wonder Woman film, and I credit that to the directing and writing. Outside that? She has no charisma and isn’t watchable in the other films I’ve seen her in.

She says her lines without emotion and in a way that seems like she’s hearing them for the first time. Do studios keep hiring her simply because she played an iconic character in a movie that made a lot of money? The projects she’s got lined up…Cleopatra and To Catch a Thief? She has no issues booking big projects while others more talented than her have a harder time (Lupita).

Maybe she’ll surprise in Death on the Nile but I’m not hopeful. The film isn’t out yet and she’s already become a meme because of that now iconic line about a chef and enough champagne to fill the Nile.

Idk, I’m not particularly care for Gadot as an actress but weirdly enough I can see her pulling some 2003 Charlize Theron.

Gal Gadot won’t have longevity anyway. Like i’ll be shocked if she’s still a thing in 5 years.

The Dark Knight was nothing special, the hype was only because the Joker was in that movie, nobody cared about the first movie, that’s the proof.
