What actor and director team-ups are you looking forward to? I’m excited to see how Blonde turns out, so I chose Ana de Armas and Andrew Dominik. If I missed out on other collaborations, feel free to add them in the comments.

April 6, 2021 at 5:23 am #1204181358100% Driver and Carax for me, I cannot wait to see what the hell this film is going to be.
My reasoning is that Driver as a performer has a very distinct physicality (and I don’t just mean his overall largeness, though he is very large) that he uses really well – you can see it especially in stuff like Girls and Star Wars. Even in something like While We’re Young he does a lot of really specific hand and arm movements that really help sell that character.
Carax as a director loves to get performances with unique and intense physicality from his actors, his films basically require them, and so for me those two are a match made in weird arty cinema heaven.

I feel like they share a similar tone and space artistically but at the same time I think their approach to the work is totally different. Then, such a popular role as Diana makes it even more interesting.
ReplyCopy URLApril 6, 2021 at 6:00 am #1204181384Leos Carax and Adam Driver is one of those pairings that at first makes you say ‘huh how did that happen’? but when you think about it for five seconds it makes total and complete sense. Regardless of how the film is received or how accessible it is I expect the performance will be great.
I am also very intrigued by Larrain/Stewart, again because they have sensibilities that seem like they’d mesh well together.
And then deArmas / Dominik just because the film sounds like it’s completely experimental and weird. And as with Driver/Carax I have high expectations for her performance even if the film doesn’t land.
April 6, 2021 at 6:05 am #1204181397The one I am the most excited to see is Anya Taylor-Joy and Edgar Wright but that’s largely because I’m intrigued by the eccentric premise of the film more than anything.
I voted Stewart and Larrain. Not because I am excited for Spencer (I’m still sceptical) but because Larrain seems to be very good as an actor’s director and as fefface alluded to both him and Stewart seem to share some sort of European art house sensibilities. It could be a match made in heaven creatively.

April 6, 2021 at 6:09 am #1204181401Comer for me. Probably more interested to see other movies, but very curious to see what she does here

I’m so looking forward to this performance! I’ve been a fan of Comer for a while (ever since the days of Doctor Foster and Thirteen) and her ability to just transform into her characters is amazing.

April 6, 2021 at 7:26 am #1204181544There’s no choice for “other” but I’m really looking forward to seeing Olivia Colman in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial feature film debut, an adaptation of Elena Ferrante’s novel, “The Lost Daughter.”

Yeah I just really don’t get the Cooper thing. I genuinely don’t think he’s a great actor, but each to their own I suppose.
Anyway my answer is easily Driver and Carax.
Same, but intrigued to know why you picked these two.

I don’t find Sam Mendes particularly exciting tbh.
