This movie comes out February 1 on Netflix and looks like a horror thriller. It is directed by Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler) and stars the two leads of that film (which I loved), Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo, as well as John Malkovich, Daveed Diggs, Toni Collette, and Billy Magnussen among others.
Based off the talent alone I’m excited, and I adore Gyllenhaal so that helps. I’m not sure it really looks like Oscar fare as the last part of the trailer looks full on horror, but if it’s good enough it could theoretically be in the conversation. Really, I’m just excited about this movie in general regardless of awards chances.
It looks a tad ridiculous, but I’m praying it works and isn’t bad and campy. At the very least, I expect to be entertained.

shirtless jake gyllenhaal playing an art critic? I’m here for thisJanuary 12, 2019 at 6:57 pm #1202731266
it definitely looks a little campy not really dark like Nightcrawler, but that’s what I am excited about, it’s going to be fun! definitely looks like it will be a better film then Bird Box, so that’s good. just looks pretty enjoyable and I love when Jake goes really weird in his movies. he can do anything.

This films looks so so so soooo bad.I won´t even watch it because of that and because the trailer tells literally the whole film.February 1, 2019 at 2:41 pm #1202758381
I’m currently watching this and it feels too long. I’m so bored at this point. I only decided to watch it because of Jake being in it. Why does John Malkovich keep accepting depressing roles? Also, Toni Collette desperately needs a new agent.
Edit: Finished it, not worth the watch.February 1, 2019 at 9:24 pm #1202758647
“I can’t save you”!
I enjoyed this, which means most people will probably hate it lolFebruary 2, 2019 at 4:39 am #1202758817
Bad stuff. However, I would advise people not to watch the trailer – it gives virtually everything away. At least if you watch it without seeing the trailer you may get a couple of surprises but in the end its pretty silly stuff.February 2, 2019 at 7:57 am #1202758933
Ok so I watched this last night…..I am so disappointed yet I loved the ending.
John Malkovich (who was my favorite thing in the entire movie)
The script was very all over the place in my opinion.

Gilroy continues to disappoint me. He’s always so shallow! Perhaps fourth time’s the charm? Doubt it.February 3, 2019 at 9:05 am #1202760098
I thought it was great.
I don’t understand why Netflix Latin America is not paying attention to this film. I had to type the complete words “Velvet Buzzsaw” on friday, premiere day, to actually find the film. It was not anywhere on their trending, recently added or main pages.
Last night I finally saw it, but again I had to type the whole thing. And that shitty show called Velvet and another thing called Velvet actually showed up first even though “buzzsaw” was added to the search.

Both Dumplin’ and Mudbound were theatrical releases with only USA having them also available on Netflix I think. That also happened here as well (I live outside of the US).February 3, 2019 at 9:31 am #1202760122
It looks like a horror/black comedy and it’s so stylish with talented actors.
