Yes. Denzel is their fave. Will Smith wouldn’t have had award success with a mediocre film like Roman J Israel Esq. L want him to win an Oscar, but it won’t happen with King Richard

Denzel made it to the nominated 5 because of James Franco’a sexual misconduct accusations.

Narrative? Narrative doesn’t work for black performers. They now need to be in BP contenders to be win competitive. I don’t see King Richard getting a BP nomination

I know it’s not that recent, but what about Forest Whittaker? He was the only nominee of his movie anywhere except BAFTA (where they frauded McAvoy in Supporting and the movie also won Adapted Screenplay).

Pure coincidence, I talked to someone who apparently saw a test screening of King Richard. Apparently, the film is bleh, like right in the area where it’s not really great but not really terrible, but Will Smith is very good. Those were his exact words. Make of that what you will

Nope Franco couldn’t even make it in BAFTA which notoriously snubs Denzel for every role. The Disaster Artist was an incredibly weak film and Franco only won the Globe since its the Globes like how Taron Egerton won the following year.

Agree. The only expection is Denzel who got Oscar nominations for mediocre movies. King Richard sounds very awful. Will Smith has a way better movie for Oscars 2023: EMANCIPATION an Epic about slavery with several action scenes. And a big budget. And APPLE Producing

A bit off topic, but I think Apple’s priority and main push in 2022 will be Killers of The Flower Moon, the 200 Million Scorsese Western epic.

Regina King won for a performance in a non-BP-nominated film…though it was likely pretty close

Its more like Mystery-Crime Flick than anything related to western epic. Its based on a non fictional book

Sharing this more because it’s funny than anything, but Focus Features has put Paul Schrader back into Facebook jail after A24 did the same thing for First Reformed lmao

They’re also reporting at least one of Amazon’s films are going. So one of AnnetteThe Electrical Life of Louis Wain and A Hero will premiere here.

I think the four Netflix films may be Don’t Look Up, The Power of The Dog, Blonde, and Tick Tick Boom.

    As it should be!!!

Anyway, i dont think Card Counter chances would get hurt due to his comments on Spacey and Elliot Page since Schrader has always been edgy as someone pointed out in previous thread. Its just Focus (probably) put all their money on Soho and Belfast (for a safer bet).
