If Elle Fanning ended up uglifying herself for The Nightingale (based on the source material, her role requires her to pull off Christian Bale transformation in The Machinist and have her hair shaved)  then the race in lead actress is gonna be bloodbath (its already is)

On the side note, either both of Soho ladies is coming to pull off Daniel Kaluuya and Natalie Portman nomination for Get Out and Black Swan, respectively.

This must be a tricky one for you Tony given that you enjoy Gaga but loathe Adam Driver.

I don’t dislike Adam Driver. He deserved his nom for Blackkklansman. However, he was just overrated in Marriage Story and I admitted it. If he turns out good in Gucci, I’ll root for him. I just want that film to be a success

After seeing some Sundance films, I think these performances will get the Oscar hype for the 2022 Oscars:
Ann Dowd, Martha Plimpton, and Jason Isaacs for Mass. Depending on category placements, Dowd and/or Plimpton could easily win, they both have monologues that are a masterclass in acting. It’s such an ensemble like one night in Miami that it’s hard to categorize them into lead or supporting.

Tessa Thompson and Ruth Negga for Passing. Tessa could get her first lead actress nom. Negga is definitely supporting in this and she could easily win. She’s incredible in it.

If Dowd, Plimpton, and Negga are all in the supporting actress race that will be one of the strongest years for that category in a long time.

I think that this is a filmed National Theatre’s play, so it won’t be eligible for film awards. They both have other interesting projects coming out this year or next year. Be ready for them knocking out awards season!

Ruth coming in like a dark horse again.

A little bit of Magic never hurt anybody.

From what I’ve heard from Sundance, I agree MASS could get some nods with its actors, as could PASSING, and CODA I could see Marlee Matlin getting a second Oscar nomination.

    FYC:

Best Screenplay: Never Rarely Sometimes Always (Eliza Hitman)
Best Actress: Sidney Flanigan ("Never Rarely Sometimes Always")
