I personally believe Black Panther was a fluke. The right movie at the right time. People are getting really tired of the MCU and superhero movies are getting rather played at this point.

I am sorry for my past behaviour. I am sorry for being a turd. I would like to try and be better.

As an MCU fanboy, I’ll have to see what Eternals does to truly distinguish itself. I do think this could be a bigger technical contender than previous MCU movies, but that’s all for now; I’m not expecting a Black Panther showcase at all due to the lack of social relevance (unless they push Brian Tyree Henry because his character is gay). In terms of anticipation, I will say that Ramin Djawadi is a criminally underrated musician who deserves the Ludwig career boost, and Ben Davis could get some cinematography traction following Three Billboards, especially if he’s working with Zhao (not to downplay Joshua James Richards’ work in previous Zhao films of course).

I don’t think Eternals will be nominated for BP, but LOL no to this.

The gay character in Eternals probably won’t be show as gay. They will just say he is, but I doubt this will be a factor in the plot.

Just remember about how much Disney fancied themselves about the 5 seconds Joe Russo cameo in Endgame because they said the character was gay LMAO.

This is the same company that dumped Love, Victor to Hulu, where less people would see, because they thought the show was too inappropriate for their family friendly Disney +.

The amount of ‘I’m better than those peasants because I watch the criterion collection’ on this thread is absurd.

We get it. Lady Gaga bad. Marvel bad. That does not mean that either of these two projects are unfathomable considering the hype and awards history behind each. Grow up.

    Exactly.

But we are talking movies in here. Lol. Gaga is not even the biggest star in music. Beyonce, Taylor Swift and Adele says hi.

Depending on how “revolutionary” Eternals is for Marvel it may be a contender or not. Chloé said that Marvel it’s taking a big risk with that film, but of course, we can’t take her opinion because she’s biased. We’ll have to watch it for ourselves.

I mean…obviously, you’re right about Beyonce, Taylor and Adele. But I am talking about movies. Gaga’s the biggest crossover star who has very successful lanes in both music and films now at a time when pretty much all music stars have done films and been totally or mildly panned (Swift in Cats, Beyonce in a number of films).

Whatever, I don’t know why I’m in the position of defending Gaga lol. I definitely do not see in her as an actor what other people do, I honestly don’t think the Oscar nod was deserved, my take on ASIB is that Gaga does the musical parts incredibly well because she’s…very good at that but I wasn’t impressed by the acting.

In any case, I was simply stating that her sheer amount of fame and hype is enough to make something big regardless of whether it’s deserving or not.

Honestly I have nothing to contribute to the Eternals conversation except that: sure, it could be a player but as of now it doesn’t seem to have the same potential for immense cultural relevance like Black Panther did. If it were a character-driven story (like, I dunno, a film on Scarlet Witch), I’d be inclined to think Zhao’s approach to filmmaking would definitely make this a much more compelling case.

But let’s see. I obviously have zero idea but to be honest I do think MCU content is getting much, much better. There is a marked rise in quality because Kevin Feige clearly wants to get “auteur” directors, so…I don’t know what the future holds for Eternals specifically but I see an upward trajectory for MCU films, not a downward one.

No one is saying there aren’t other big stars in music. Just that you can’t directly compare the star power of Gaga and Leo because until recently they’ve worked in completely different fields.

Like I get that some people here are weirdly upset by the suggestion that Gaga can open a movie on her name alone and whether HoG makes money remains to be seen but it is a fact that ASIB did bigger box office than OUATIH. But that’s another reason why it’s pointless to compare – Gaga hasn’t done enough movies for any real conclusion to be drawn about her box office power.

Few hours ago, there was an article(but sounded like an editorial) in Deadline Hollywood where they said the Oscars need to be More Commercial and Maybe they need a Host. It seems Deadline Hollywood is really pannicking about the worst Oscar ratings of All Time

Bingo. That over half of Hollywood works for them is why Oscar is more likely than Razzie in the future. If you look at awards bodies that gave them thumbs up, PGA (nom), SAG-AFTRA (win), AMPAS (nom) are nothing to sneeze at. They took Marvel seriously once, they will again. Perhaps not Eternals but door is open. I agree that campaign narrative built around Zhao is BS. They won’t nominate her again for this. They know it’s a paycheck job no matter how well it turns out and a waste of nomination. Unless Feige is really delulu that she could win a la Inarritu, he’s very likely just trying to make the movie sound more serious and relevant. But funny thing is, this Eternals hype coming from him gotta make one worder what’s wrong with Black Widow and Shang-chi, too movies coming out before Eternals yet getting no praise from the boss nor meme insider praise. The focus on propping the later release at the expense of the earler ones is amusing.

Feige is excited about Eternals because they are gonna campaign hard for it, that doesn’t mean the other MCU movies suck, all of them will do well at the box office.
