Jessica Chastain’s The 355 is being released earlier on January 7, 2022 (don’t think it’ll get any nominations).

Will the oscars 2022 release window be until December 31st like it was? Or will they continue with the Oscars 2021 window, until the end of February ?

    The Forgoten Battle

Considering Netflix is releasing the film this May, this won’t be Netflix’s priority beyond Sound nom. Also it doesn’t help the director’s prior film was the remake of “The Thing”.

Another film that could be in the running for Best International Film, provided it’s out by the end of the year, is Alejandro G. Inarritu’s Limbo, which has been filming in Mexico since the beginning of March for a five month shoot.

I highly doubt that the Academy will be willing to give Inarritu other awards considering he already won too many Oscars for being someone who’s not even considered as great as his other fellow Mexican filmmakers Cuaron and Del Toro, and considering that Birdman and The Revenant wins didn’t age greatly compared to the other films that were there in those same respective years.

I can see Verhoeven finally getting his due with Benedetta.

Verhoeven is too controversial and some of his past controversies (specifically concerning Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct) may become circulated wildly if Benedetta picks up steam.

Still, Benedetta is a little too out there for the Academy’s taste as some have already said.

Farhadi’s A Hero is probably one of the few in this category (International Feature Film) that almost feel like a sure thing for a nomination. It isn’t one but it’s probably the closest to being one.

And I’m 100% sure Benedetta will get backlashed.
It seems another Blue is the Warmest Color where there’s the whole “Lesbians through the point of view of men” controversy, which seems completely on spot considering we got Portrait of a Lady on Fire two years ago and that movie raised the bar.

Verhoeven is simply not happening. The Academy will never nominate a lesbian erotic film about nuns lol.

If The Mad Women’s Ball get released on time, I feel like it could be a contender. The premise is baity and Melanie Laurent has been in industry for quite some time now.

However, I can’t find any news about the production, which isn’t a good sign.

Benedetta is not winning International Film. But Verhoeven could be a contender for a Director nomination if that movie stays in the conversation long enough. We know the Directors branch loooves to celebrate auteurs. And Verhoeven is certainly overdue for an Oscar nomination. Although I think that train was Elle and he sadly missed it.

So? A lot of great artists have weak and even trash pieces on their body of work. Spike Lee got his first Director nomination after that travesty that was Oldboy.

Verhoven is amazing and is incredibly deserving of a best director nomination.

You can like his movies, but to say he’s “overdue” for an Oscar nomination is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve heard. He directed Robocop lol. He directed Starship Troopers lol. He directed Total Recall lol.

All those movies have their place, but none that makes one “overdue” for an Oscar.
