First trailer for WSS. It looks better than I expected but Ansel Elgort feels like a looming cloud over the project…his appearances in this trailer even as a main character are minimal. I don’t know how much they can get away from the association of his allegations even if they completely shift focus away from him in their campaign

West Side Story looks more Globe fare + tech contender rather than an across the board contender. I’m not expecting much for it’s Oscar haul. Especially with Ansel’s controversy.

FYC Emmys: "The Crown" in all categories, "I May Destroy You" in all categories, "It's a Sin" in all categories, "Small Axe" in all categories, Billie Piper ("I Hate Suzie"), Yvonne Strahovski ("Stateless") and Ruth Wilson ("His Dark Materials")

Yeah, i’m sure it will be a great musical, but I don’t think it will be a huge contender for the Oscars, more like a Globes thing (If they will still exist next year).
It may even snag a Picture nom, but not much else in the other major categories.

My out there guess is cinematography, production design, sound, costume design, is there an original song in this? If we’re being really generous.

    FYC:

Best Screenplay: Never Rarely Sometimes Always (Eliza Hitman)
Best Actress: Sidney Flanigan ("Never Rarely Sometimes Always")

So the most popular artist just won the Original Song Oscar this year and people still think Eilish has no chance next year?

With McDormand won another Oscars. I think she just cancel herself for next year’s Oscars

It probably won’t be next year, but now Carey Mulligan is looking very strong for Maestro.

I knkw the whole reason we thought Frances wouldn’t win because of 3BB and we were wrong but…it would surprise me if she gained much traction for Tragedy of Macbeth the YEAR AFTER?

Davis for Unforgiven looks…strong. But in Supporting?! Mulligan in Maestro…eh. She’s just 2 noms in, and she just lost for what people think is a career-best (it’s not. Wildlife is her career best).

JHud will have quite a narrative? Still think it’s Dunst or Colman’s to lose but…c’mon. Even Viola can’t win in Lead?

    Again, Frances deserved it tho.

By deserved I mean that she gave a stellar performance even if Kirby was my fave. I’d have put Davis on par, but either way, it’s hard to begrudge Frances winning. She shouldn’t have won for 3BB, this one feels earnnnnned

Could McDormand miss out on getting nominated for The Tragedy of Macbeth?

Honestly, I could see her missing out.

There’s gonna be a huge backlash against her from now. Especially since she won three Lead Oscars for just playing variations of herself.

Frances will deliver a Hepburn Lion In Winter styled performance and win her 4th acting Oscar.

Is she eligible? I thought it’d been established that she wouldn’t be?
