I never said it was the only starry movie ensemble, nor did I say none of the others would make money. I said HoG feels, in my opinion, like it will do the biggest box office numbers. The leaked script for Don’t Look Up is terrible. If that’s the shooting script then it could struggle. David O’Russell is vile so I hope his Oscar grab flops. Nightmare Alley definitely has a shot at doing really well but IMO HoG will beat it. That’s just what I think. Their release dates are only a week apart IIRC which will be interesting.

Sure, but your reasoning was the star power of the cast, so…

By the way, Dicaprio managed to lead The Great Gatsby to 350m at the B.O despite poor reception, so even if DLU isn’t good it’s still likely going to be a hit.

Yeah because the star power of the cast is a factor, of course it is. That doesn’t mean I’m not aware of all the other star power out there.

Some doubting Don’t Look Up? Even though I’m not a fan of Mckay, it will be viewed on Netflix. Easy. It will be huge. if Clooney managed to attract 60-70m views, expect Don’t Look Up to triple it! You have movie stars like Leo and Jlaw. Both of them have huge followings not only in the US plus an all star cast. Lol!

You can’t compare Nightmare Alley to House of Gucci.

Gaga generates a tsunami of media attention that very few people can compete with. The movie hasn’t even had a trailer yet and already it’s gone viral.

I am not talking about the quality of the films. I am talking about sheer buzz and box office. Two different animals, in my opinion.

David O’ Russell has ALWAYS been known for being a horrible human being. Remember when he had those tantrums on Huckabees?

Rudin is already suffering greatly from the articles about him. A new one connects him to the suicide of an ex assistant.

Bullying will soon join sexual molestation and racial discrimination in the panorama of inappropriate workplace behaviors. As it should, when it is conducted with such obliviousness and sadism.

I never understood how they calculate gross income on streaming platforms. Is it by how many times the film is watched? Or by how many subscribers?

If a movie is a gigantic hit on Netflix, how would its financial returns compare to a gigantic theatrical hit? Like … say Avengers vs Extraction- both wildly successful.

Internet hype does not automatically translate to B.O/movie’s success, Zendaya proved that with Malcolm and Marie. Harry Styles is also huge on internet, that alone does not mean Don’t Worry Darling is going to make a lot of money.

Dicaprio is not so trendy on internet and he’s still the biggest movie star working today. Bradley Cooper is in similar position where he’s not so popular on the internet, but he has a pretty strong star power. As for Gaga, the jury is still out on her movie star power, one movie is not enough to tell.

I think what you say about “Internet hype” not translating to success is true, however (at least in music), Gaga/Styles hype is very much “real”, since it transfers well to monthly listeners/copies sold. People are buying their art, not just tweeting about it. And I think this will also be reflected in people going to see them to the movies. Their loyal fanbases will go see them, and the general public knows them and may be intrigued because of the musician/actor thing. (critics will be put off).

    Netflix don’t release those numbers.

Sure, but music is a different beast. As for movies, while internet hype can sure help, it’s being incredibly overestimated here by some users.

Ok, so I read the synopsis for The Power of the Dog and now I understand why it’s expected to clean up. Brokeback 2.0. (well, sort of). I mistook it for another book of the same name, something about drug cartels.

Did any of you watched the original Nightmate Alley or have read the book ? Del Toro will have to change a lot of stuff to make this more accessible for today’s world. I doubt it will have a good box office.

But it will generate a lot of hype if the number of views will be huge. Lol.
