You can now make your picks for BEST VISUAL EFFECTS in our predictions center. This category seems to be a tough one this year, right?November 15, 2015 at 8:26 pm #198318
The Walk is in. I also wonder about Tomorrowland since this branch doesn’t necessarily care so much if you’re a smash hit or not.November 15, 2015 at 8:34 pm #198319
Tough in the sense that the final two spots are anyone’s guess. Star Wars, Fury Road, and The Martian are easy locks. Right now I say those final two go to Age of Ultron (which should be passed over for Ant-Man) and The Walk (lucky for it, the bakeoff will prevent any chance of this being hurt by its disastrous box office).November 15, 2015 at 9:02 pm #198320
The Walk is definitely in. That’s too much of an achievement to ignore. Even if voters only saw the trailer they will go for it. I think the Marvel slot is going to go to Antman actually. Have not seen Ultron but I feel like Antman had a lot more visual effects to deal with plus that amazing youth on Michael Douglas’ face in the opening sceneNovember 15, 2015 at 9:20 pm #198321
Category seems pretty easy imho.November 16, 2015 at 6:53 pm #198322
The Martian, Star Wars, Jurassic world, the walk and mad max fury roadNovember 17, 2015 at 6:46 am #198323
I think the voting committee are going to nominate Ant-Man for many of the same reasons they will for The Walk. There were a lot of technological advances used rather than the traditional fare of creating CGI characters (ie: Star Wars, Jurassic World, The Avengers)November 17, 2015 at 9:13 am #198324
This is, deserved or not, bound to be SW7 to lose.November 17, 2015 at 11:06 am #198325

Whether it deserves it or not, Jurassic World is in because the industry will want to pay its respects to this commercial mammoth.

Good list but i think San ANdreas should make itDecember 8, 2015 at 10:04 am #198329
Can someone sell me on why we are predicting Jurassic World for this category? I enjoyed the movie, but the one huge issue I had with it was that I was overly aware I was watching CGI the whole time. Those effects just arent going to age well. Are we just thinking they are going for “the most” effects, rather than “the best”? If they were voting for “Most Effects”, Avengers makes a better choice than Jurassic World in my opinion.
I think Ant-Man is being severly downplayed in predictions. The film couldnt even get made until the effects technology existed, and the CGI is unique and well implemented.December 8, 2015 at 10:47 am #198330
The Walk deserves this, or at the very least a nomination. And I hate the film
