I’m really having a tough time choosing my movie of the year between Irishman and OUATIH. It’s rare that a single year has two movies that good.

I need to find out which one has the stronger chance so I won’t waste my vote haha

I just watched the documentary For Sama, and all I can say is wow. Just, wow. It’s one of the most beautiful, moving, gripping, heart-wrenching films I’ve seen in a long time.

I know there’s only a few days left for the Gold Derby Awards nominations, but please watch it and consider adding it to your ballot. It truly, truly deserves it.

Here’s a YouTube link to the full film on the official Frontline PBS channel: https://youtu.be/8jFHbo0Cgu8

On your recommendation I watched this last night on YouTube and it was as good as you said.

It is not very long and widely available so I would highly recommend it for some last minute Goldderby Award viewing.

Oh, that’s awesome! I’m glad you enjoyed it. The documentary field is pretty stacked this year, but I’m sincerely hoping it makes it….

Oh, it is stacked. I spent the last two weekends catching up on my doc viewing (“The Great Hack”, “One Child Nation”, “Knock Down the House”, etc.) and the only doc I had seen at that point made it into the Oscar race was “American Factory”. After seeing “For Sama” I am up to two Oscar nominees.

Nice! I think American Factory is my favorite documentary this year. Also, if you have Hulu, you can stream The Biggest Little Farm and Honeyland – if you haven’t seen them already. They’re both great documentaries as well.

Here’s hoping the Gold Derby Awards rectify these Oscar snubs:

Apollo 11 for Best Documentary Feature
The Farewell for anything, particularly Best Picture, Best Actress for Awkwafina, Best Supporting Actress for Zhao Shuzhen, and Best Original Screenplay
Lupita Nyong’o for Best Actress in Us
Ad Astra for Best Visual Effects, since it wasn’t eligible at the Oscars
