Nobody knows awards better than the experts, editors and users at Gold Derby, so we launched our own prizes for film in 2002 and for TV in 2004. Vote for your favorites in 22 categories for the Gold Derby Film Awards Nominations 2020. You can rank your top three choices in almost every category except for Best Picture, for which you can vote for five choices. You have until the end of March 7 to make or change your final selections.
You are allowed to campaign in this thread, but keep it limited. Don’t push for more than 3 films overall. DO NOT publish your ballot in this thread or compile voting totals based on other people’s ballots. Those posts will be deleted.February 10, 2021 at 9:11 am #1204035325
Usually I have trouble restricting what I put in my campaigning for the Gold Derby awards but this year there is one on top of my mind…
FYC: The only performance that matters
Actress in a Leading Role of the Year – Carey Mulligan
Performer of the Year – Carey Mulligan
FYC OSCARS : PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN IN ALL CATEGORIES (ESP. ACTRESS – Carey Mulligan AND ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY — EMERALD FENNELL), VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", ESSIE DAVIS FOR "BABYTEETH"February 10, 2021 at 9:14 am #1204035332
YAY! The time has come. I’ll be posting my FYCs very soon. Here’s to a wonderful Gold Derby Awards!
Edit: I know we’ll most likely have to message Daniel with our minor suggestions, but please consider adding Eurovision Song Contest to Costume Design and Makeup/Hairstyling.
My username is an acronym of “Quiet On Set! Lights, Camera, Action.”February 10, 2021 at 9:20 am #1204035341
For your consideration:
Christopher Nolan – Tenet, Director
He will 100% get dropped at the oscars because they movie doesn’t fit the profile, yet there’s no denying the direction in Tenet was exceptional and very challenging. At least let’s give him a nomination hereFebruary 10, 2021 at 9:22 am #1204035345
Wow. This was easy. Just add Let Them All Talk, First Cow, Kajillionaire and Birds of Prey anywhere you can.February 10, 2021 at 9:22 am #1204035347
Here are 2 FYCs for 2 of my favorite performances of the year that I consider to be very underrated.
Best Actress: Carrie Coon, The Nest
Best Supporting Actor: Tom Pelphrey, Mank
And one last FYC for an actress that was the MVP of her film and yet she isn’t getting a lot of attention.
Best Actress: Han Ye-ri, MinariFebruary 10, 2021 at 9:26 am #1204035363
Biggest FYC (duh): Viola Davis in Best Actress for “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”
A Fervent Believer in the Church of Viola DavisFebruary 10, 2021 at 9:30 am #1204035375
FYC Oscars: Soul (Best Picture, Original Screenplay, and Original Score), Regina King (Best Director), Delroy Lindo (Best Actor), Viola Davis (Best Actress), Leslie Odom Jr. (Best Supporting Actor)February 10, 2021 at 9:45 am #1204035400
Question, why is Minari in International Feature? GD is a subsidiary of an American company and Minari is an American film?February 10, 2021 at 10:00 am #1204035447
Best International Film: Bacurau
Best Actress: Nicole Beharie, Miss Juneenth
Best Actress: Radha Blank, The Forty-Year-Old VersionFebruary 10, 2021 at 10:07 am #1204035455
I have two FYC’s and both in same catagory: Sophia Loren and Viola Davis. Thanks 🙂February 10, 2021 at 10:07 am #1204035457
Because it is nominated in that category for the Golden Globes.
For which they’ve gotten weeks worth of negative discourse on the decision.
Yes, many of the people voting are international/non-American (both HFPA & GD) but both are American based organisations. Minari isn’t international feature under this aspect other than it being in a non-English language.
The Father, Promising Young Woman et al Bafta British Film submissions fit the international feature description far better than Minari is.February 10, 2021 at 10:09 am #1204035464
FYC: Judas and the Black Messiah in Picture, Director, Actor, Supporting Actor, Editing, and Original Screenplay.
The World to Come in Original Score and Ensemble.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in supporting Actor.
