I just saw Notes on a Scandal last night. I thought Cate Blanchett and Judi Dench were excellent in it, but then I thought Cate Blanchett also had a decent amount of screentime and the story pretty much was about her character.

What do you guys think? Was she a lead or supporting performance?

Great movie. From memory they were essentially co-leads and Cate dropped down. I don’t remember there being much outrage about it at the time though.

She is lead but it looks like Dench was thirsty for that lead Oscar so they relegated Blanchett to supporting.

Blanchett supposedly had a lot or her work left on the cutting room floor so she was even more of a lead initially. I think it was ok putting her in supporting.

She seems rather ambivalent about the film and the nomination from things I’ve read. She didn’t feel like her character’s story was told as completely as she wanted.

Yeah, it’s probably my least favorite performance of hers, and part of it seems off, almost dare I say anti-gay lmao.. and I’m assuming that’s not her fault…

    Co-lead with Judi Dench.

Bill Nighy for example is supporting.

    I’d say co-lead.

Please send me a link about this. I have only seen her press conference at the Berlin Film Festival from 2007 with Judi Dench and others. Blanchett praised the film, director and most of all, working with Dench and the script from Patrick Marber
