I always wonder if Bette Davis ever see the movie. I bet she would’ve laughed her ass off watching Dunaway perform. Especially with her delivery of ‘no wire hangers’ ‘barbra please’ or ‘christina cristoper dammit!’

    Bette be like:

“Really, this is what Crawford praised so highly?”

as much as I love Hepburn’s performance in that film, I slowly appreciated Dunaway’s performance over the years. I think she would’ve been a worthy contenders and even a great winner.

    ‘NO WIRE HANGERS!’

    ‘THE BOYS AND THE BOOZE’

    ‘BARBARA PLEASE!” (lol)

    ‘DAMMIT PERRINO’S IS MY PLACE!’

    ‘TINA……..BRING ME THE AX’

    ‘DON’T FOOOCK WITH ME FELLAS!’

Her performance is so legendary, people still quoting it.

Who remembers ‘you’re my knight in a shining armor’

Truthfully, the quote “you’re my knight in a shining armor” is far more known than anything in Mommie Dearest and has been reused on many occassions.

“Christina!! Christopher!! 😡😡 Damn it… 😩😫” (while looking outside window)

“I should’ve known you’d know where to find the boys… and the booze!” (Throws empty flask to the floor).

I’m sick of many people’s comment for the scenes of this film on Youtube about how this film shouldn’t be taken not seriously. I mean… it’s funny and campy as hell, and this film lives rent free in gay community whom (many of them) were/are abused, but still find it so hilarious.

In the case of awards, there are too many “too” to describe Ms. Dunaway’s acting, but “good” is not one of them. It still is iconic though.

"The Lost Daughter" in every eligible category - Film
"Succession" Season 3 in every eligible category - TV
"Heaux Tales" by Jasmine Sullivan in every eligible category - Music

It’s one of those performances that’s iconic because it’s so bad it’s good. Faye can blame it on anyone she wants but as an actress of mediocre skills, she’s incapable of moderating her performance and strike the balance between the genius, the insecurities, the victim and the monstrous. All she’s capable of going for is over-the-top hysteria. Funny and campy she is, but hardly the balanced and nuanced portrait Crawford deserves.

Katherine Hepburn certainly didn’t deserve it for the gawdawful On Golden Pond but neither did Faye. I’ll give it to either Diane Keaton or Susan Sarandon who is the LEAD in Atlantic City.
