Honey; if Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Lady Gaga, or any other white woman played Halle Berry’s role in Monster’s Ball, y’all would be praising it.  Get the fuck out of here!

Me too. Not only would a 2nd nomination playing a female MMA fighter be historical, she’d be the first female to direct herself to an Oscar nod.

Her role in bruised was praised out of tiff..but the movie was met with mixed reviews. Netflix bought it and asked her to re-edit the film. Who knows when itll come out but im guessing August or September

Halle role is is grittier and unique amongst the best actress contenders most of them are novels and biopics her role standsout. Netflix will release it during the fall oscar season and heard from an intel Netflix is sending it i. Telluride Film Fest.  I see some critics on twitter  putting her in the best actress contention for 2022.  I need a Halle comeback because Hollywood has counted her out already. I root for her every year.

That is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard, and I’ve heard a lot of stupid things.

It’s like saying if Jennifer Lawrence, Lady Gaga, Amy Adams or “any other white woman” (let’s just say Lindsay Lohan, Madonna, Jenny McCarthy and Paris Hilton) were to play Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do with it, or if Meryl Streep were to play the Quvenzhané Wallis role in Beasts of the Southern Wild, they’d have all won the Oscar.

Get the fuck out of here yourself. Not everything needs to be viewed through a racial lens. Saying all black Oscar winners must by default deserve their Oscars is as racist as saying all white Oscar winners must by default deserve their Oscars. I can absolutely adore Viola Davis and Angela Bassett and Alfred Woodard and Regina King’s works as I can find Halle Berry’s performance underwhelming. And no, I don’t think Jennifer Lawrence or Lady Gaga deserve any acting Oscars. Goodbye, “honey”.

No disrespect but this is something only a non-POC would say when it pertains to the Oscars.

For the past 90+ years, voters have chosen winners/nominees through a “racial lens”. Hence why there’s only ever been 1 Black woman to ever receive the Lead Actress award. It’s not a coincidence.

Hollywood has over a century’s worth of bias & discrimination against POC. The lack of representation at the Academy Awards only magnifies that.

Halle Berry deserves to be back in the race. I pray Bruised becomes a hit. I don’t know what some people have against her, but to me she’s a deserving winner. Better than some of the recent winners who only had bigger and more critically acclaimed movies

Include Golden Globes to the mix. I have a feeling that it will take sometime before we see another POC to win the Oscars Lead Actress. I know people are saying it’s shouldn’t be  about race but performance.  But we don’t see oscar  winning roles for POC. its  the film industry who doesn’t greenlight this movies. We never should have gone 15 years between iconic Halle Berry She can be the mother, the ex, the wife, the businesswoman, the cop, the CIA agent. Anything. It’s time for Berry’s return to prominence. She deserves it, and there’s a lot of lost time to make up for.

Halle Berry is a terrible actress. Sissy Spacek should have won and gave the best performance that year, man or woman. In the Bedroom was amazing.

Get real!  Sissy Spacek should NOT have won for that awful performance (BARF!).  Only white people think that.  Halle Berry is a very gifted actress and deserved her Oscar win.

I think Berry’s post Oscar career and the problematic narratives reinforced by Monster’s Ball makes people look at her win more negatively and thus think that it’s not deserved, rather than judging the performance on its own merits. It doesn’t help that Satine from Moulin Rouge and Bridget Jones are quite iconic cinematic characters as well.
