Him and Regina King got these Oscars so easily.

Regina was good, but the screentime bothers me, I mean she’s barely on screen 15 min in a 2h movie, this is unfair.

It’s called Supporting Role for a reason.

And yes, he’s co-lead. just the weirdest thing the supporting actor winner is lead and the lead actress winner is supporting when the most lead of her film entered in supporting. This acting race was a mess.

    She really isn’t.

It’s almost as if she won a supporting role.

I think he was supporting. The whole thing was from Tony’s point of view and all of Donald’s scenes existed because of Tony. There have been much worse cases of category fraud, including Emma Stone this year…

Of course not. His performance was great and he deserved to win a 2nd Oscar so quickly but his placement is on Vikander/Davis etc level of fraud

Forget the screentime, the movie don’t exist without Ali’s character. He wasn’t supporting but among the nominees he gave the best performance unlike Regina King.

The Oscar needs to get rid of the preferential ballot so it can name a deserving movie as Best Picture again.

Davis actually was Supporting. I hate how everyone says she is lead because of the presence she had. If you break it down, she was only in about a third of the movie while Denzel was in about two-thirds.

    He was undoubtedly Lead.

Biggest fraud ever, but who cares??

Now he’s done, he’ll take a Marvel paycheck and then we won’t hear from him ever again, exactly like Christoph Waltz and Dianne West (actors who won in a brief time two Oscars in Supporting and then disappeared).

Dianne Wiest was actually quite active in the 80s and 90s. She made tons of movies during those decades, unlike Mahershala. He simply got lucky to land his Oscar winning roles.

Or do more television. He was brilliant in “True Detective,” and is now in a guest arc on “Ramy.” Ali should be headlining a drama series right now. I don’t anticipate the “Blade” reboot at all really.

He is definitely a Lead. I would definitely concede that Mortensen was more of a Lead but that shouldn’t mean Ali deserved to be bumped to Supporting.

It’s upsetting to think how this probably cost Grant an Oscar for a performance that truly was Supporting and was actually, in my opinion, better.
