I’m scared that they’re gonna mess up Minari the same way. It’s not like they have anything else in contention so they have no excuse this time around. I still think they should’ve gotten it to play at a few more festivals.

There was no excuse for them not to send Minari to at least TIFF this year.

Not a campaigning decision per se, but if Noah Baumbach/Netflix had gotten Marriage Story out a season earlier (it was filmed early 2018) it would have done much better.

Driver would have pretty much been locked for a Best Actor win if that happened. On the downside, Dern probably would have still won over King.

Yeah, it would probably have won Best Original Screenplay.

Green Book won Best Picture, so I don’t think it was ever going to lose Best Original Screenplay.

Driver sweeping in that category would’ve been awesome, but he sadly would’ve lost to Malek.

Gorillas in the Mist’s campaign was supposed to have really annoyed people. The joke was you couldn’t open your mailbox without getting a photo of Sigourney with an ape.

Some of theorized that this turned people off to Weaver and cost her the Supporting Actress Oscar everyone thought she’d get.

I go along with Melissa Leo as the worst. She had an easy cakewalk to the Oscar. A sure thing. Then she took out those ads and started complaining about not being put on magazine covers and getting on top talk shows.

Suddenly she wasn’t a shoo in and she had to sweat out those last few weeks with people thinking that Helena Bonham Carter or even Amy Adams would sneak in and win it. She made it so hard on herself.

Then the expletive in the speech and pulling 90somthing Kirk Douglas’ cane away when she won.

God that Melissa Leo speech was the worst. What a mess. Can’t believed they picked her over Amy.

I like Melissa Leo’s win but I agree that her speech was a mess. She pretends to be surprised and disoriented that really looks annoying if you revisited that moment.
