What was the early controversy JoJo had?

You know, being a comedy about Nazis, where Hitler is portrayed as a buffoon.

It had like a 50% on Rotten Tomatoes for a while after the early reviews from TIFF, before the reviews improved dramatically after that. Early critics were much more divided on it.

    Academy-Award winners:

Parasite: Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay

Joker: Best Actor - Joaquin Phoenix

    Jojo Rabbit: Best Adapted Screenplay

I don’t remember when it had a 50% on RT. Maybe I missed something?

@JackO Another problem with the Lincoln comparison. OUATIH at least won the Critucs’ Choice and Golden Globe. Lincoln couldn’t even do that.

How many of you are convinced that 1917 was capable of winning Best Picture without winning for Directing, Writing, or being nominated for Acting or Editing? I personally am not convinced of it.

There is literally zero evidence of this. Just because you want something to happen doesnt mean that it actually did.

I went with Hollywood as well….lol. For several non Garry godmother reasons…

We all knew 1917 was done the moment it lost Director. It had no acting nor editing nom and wasn’t competitive in Screenplay either so how the hell was it going to win without any of those ? Its cinematography directional achievement truly was its only saving grace

The divide is more between the more-elite and less-esteemed critics (who align closer with the general public). It is still “Rotten” among Top Critics on Rotten Tomatoes and in the yellow on Metacritic.
