In 20th Century,we have been having “Star Filmmakers”

    -Francis Ford Coppola
    -Steven Spielberg
    -Martin Scorsese
    -Brian De Palma
    -George Lucas
    -Robert Zemecicks
    -James Cameron
    -Oliver Stone
    -Michael Mann
    -Coen Brothers
    -David Fincher
    -Quentin Tarantino
    -M Night Shyamalan

All these filmmakers who in their prime could bring audiences to theatres, alone on their name.

Now the last Star Filmmaker is Christopher Nolan who at the moment is biggest movie director and is also biggest movie director of 21st Century if not the best but he too got his big break in 2000 from Memento.

Since 2000s there have been other great filmmakers and quality has maintained same but none of them is Star Filmmaker who will bring audiences to theatres alone on their name.

Right now there are only 2 Star Filmmakers working at present and that are Quentin Tarantino(92) and Christopher Nolan(00) and other than them there isn’t a filmmaker who can bring you in theatres alone on their name, something which was frequent in 20th Century.

This is also something same with Star Actors and Actresses.Since 2000s there haven’t been actors or actresses who can bring audiences to theatres alone on their names.

I disagree with so much of what you’re saying I don’t know where to start.

No one but movie freaks check who directs a film before watching it, no one. They just look for the cast and the trailer on youtube. A “Star filmmaker” is not a thing.

Isn’t that what Jordan Peele is now?

All of the marketing for Us was about it being his follow up and he’s the only named person on poster

Do you think every other filmmaker have effect on butts in seats as Tarantino and Nolan have today? No they don’t.

This is what was common in 20th century with filmmakers even if to a lesser extent.

I do. The director is the first thing I always check. And with rare exceptions I don’t check the trailers. I suppose that’s one more thing that makes me a freak in this neck of the woods.

I disagree.. Do you have any evidence to suggest as such? These may be the factors which bring YOU to the theatre, but you cannot generalise for the standard movie-goer.

Where is Jordan Peele? Excluding him from this “list” is a major oversight.

As well as other points, it looks like you feel these master directors are has beens and done as directors.
Cameron has Avatar 2 scheduled for release in 2021. It will give a new generation a chance to take in the visuals he pioneered with advanced technologies. And it’ll give fans like me to finally see what he’s done with it.
Zemeckis’es BtoTF films were brilliant. To imply he’s “done” defies my ability to understand where your thoughts are coming from.

Avatar 2’s going to be a massive flop though. No one cares about the story or characters of the first Avatar film anymore, which is the thing that will bring people back, not the visuals. Besides, the special effects that Avatar pioneered in 2009 aren’t revolutionary anymore, and 3D ticket sales are on the decline. The Avatar sequels are dead on arrival.

As for Zemeckis, his last few films have had okay receptions (except for Marwin) but I think it’s fair to say his creativity has run dry. None of his recent films have been as well received as the Back to the Future films or even Forest Gump.

    For Your Consideration:

Best Picture: Parasite, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, Ford v Ferrari
Best Director: Bong-Joon Ho, Taika Waititi, Todd Phillips
Best Actor: Joaquin Phoenix, Robert Pattinson, Roman Griffin Davis, Christian Bale
    Best Actress: Lupita Nyong'o
Best Supporting Actor: Willem Dafoe, Song Kang-Ho, Sam Rockwell, Al Pacino
Best Supporting Actress: Thomasin McKensie, Cho Yeo-Jeong
Best Adapted Screenplay: Jojo Rabbit, Joker
Best Original Screenplay: Parasite, Ford v Ferrari
