I want to be petty and I will be petty. He’s the only male to have as close as many nominations as her. His noms are:
1970 Easy Rider
Reply
1971 Five Easy Pieces
1974 The Last Detail
1975 Chinatown
1976 One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest 1982 Reds
1984 Terms of Endearment
1986 Prizzi’s Honor
1988 Ironweed
1993 A Few Good Men
1998 As Good as It Gets
2003 About SchmidtDecember 27, 2016 at 6:08 pm #1201975875A Few Good Men for sure – I think it’s really his one and only not-great Oscar-nominated turn.

ReplyCopy URLDecember 27, 2016 at 6:12 pm #1201975884The Last Detail is his only nomination that he didn’t deserve, however I think that he should have been nominated for The Departed. So I still think he should have 12 noms.

And he was barely in A Few Good Men but they had to give him a scene to ham it up like a motherfucker. To give him an Oscar clip.
Isn’t this based on a play, so I don’t think it was written as an Oscar Clip.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 27, 2016 at 6:28 pm #1201975899Nicholson is the only reason to watch A Few Good Men — queens. Prizzi’s Honor is his weakest nomination. Have not seen the pre-Chinatown movies.

He has a stronger filmography than her.

I don’t know but still. They knew his acting style and they wanted at least one acting nomination if Tom Cruise failed to get one (which he did) and that scene was sooooo baity. Literally him playing himself but more heightened and “YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH”

Only thing I’ll give him over her.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 28, 2016 at 4:36 am #1201976118I didn’t like him in As Good as it gets. But it might have been because I liked Helen Hunt so much.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 28, 2016 at 5:05 am #1201976128To me, Jack didn’t deserve his nominations for As Good As It Gets (especially a win over Duvall) and A Few Good Men.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 28, 2016 at 5:54 am #1201976149Unlike Streep, he hasn’t been nominated for a large percentage of his film work, arguably because there are more good roles for men than for women to be recognized. Indeed, all 12 of his Oscar nominated roles are in the top 25 rated of his imdb filmography. Col. Jessup has become such an iconic role largely because of how Nicholson played it, so I’m going with his performance in About Schmidt as the the role that stands out as his worst. He had the good fortune of such meaty roles for which to be recognized over the course of his career that I really can’t see anything else that comes close.
