I agree, but would they leave it in with how big of a spoiler it is? If not, maybe him telling Michelle Williams that “there’s nothing there” OR “I can’t beat it” to Lucas Hedges. Anything better than his SAG clip tbh.
Michael Shannon – any clip
+1February 1, 2017 at 11:21 am #1202000938
I agree about Michael Shannon that any clip can be used for him because he’s just that good and is more than derserving of his nom and way more deserving of a win than AliFebruary 1, 2017 at 11:47 am #1202000962

I’d love if they showed the key silent scene for Casey, but it’s a big spoiler.February 1, 2017 at 2:12 pm #1202001055
Do spoilers matter all that much when it comes to Oscar clips? I remember Rosamund Pike’s was the “So Nick how does it feel to have your wife home?” which (aside from being the dumbest possible scene considering all the amazing ones she had) kind of gives away the whole story. Sure, it’s not something like slashing Desi’s throat but it’s very revealing (and lame). The trailers and promotional clips wouldn’t even show a scene where Amy has shorter hair and then the Oscar clip was OKAY HAI IM BAAACK. So like does it actually matter? And whose choice is it anyway?February 1, 2017 at 2:22 pm #1202001059
CASEY AFFLECK: The Scene he tells Lucas Hedges he can’t beat it
ANDREW GARFIELD: The Scene he is in military court making his case to join the war without a weapon.
RYAN GOSLING: His Scene, where he explains to Mia (Stone) why Jazz is so special to him at the Jazz Club.
VIGGO MORTENSEN: The scene he reveals his kids that they’re going to their mom’s funeral
DENZEL WASHINGTON: The Scene he tells his son that he ain’t got to like him.
RUTH NEGGA: Negga’s “We got some enemies but we got some friends too” Scene
ISABELLE HUPPERT: The scene she tells her besfriend about her affair
NATALIE PORTMAN: Any scene with the Journalist or the priest
EMMA STONE: Toward the end of the movie when Sebastian (Gosling) tries to convince her to go to the final audition and she tells him that maybe she ain’t good enough.
MERYL STREEP: Any of her (horrible) singing scenesFebruary 1, 2017 at 7:12 pm #1202001161

I thought about this too, but in Rosamund Pike’s case (yeah, Moore was great, but God I still wished she would have won, still…) that was between a rock and a hard place. Her playing a regular person pre-kidnapping wasn’t the meat of the role; her best acting could only come when she played the cold sociopath, after the audience learned Amy’s actually an evil asshole. Thus it would have to be spoiled somehow.February 1, 2017 at 7:19 pm #1202001164
I honk the Oscars could mind away to get the best scenes without including spoilers. For example, the policies Station scene with sffleck can be edited so that the viewer does t get any spoilers. They can just play it where he is asking if he can go an just staring in shock.February 1, 2017 at 8:26 pm #1202001205

Yeah I would have loved her clip to be where Amy acts as if she broke free for the cameras at the lake house but that does reveal her as a darker character. Still even better than the “hows it feel to have your wife home” scene is the one they used at the precursors where Nick and Amy are in the closet at the end. I don’t love that one but still better than her just talking in the kitchen.
A scene that would have worked pre-twist could have been where she brings up the idea of a baby and he “pushes” her against the newel post. Or just a portion of the cool girl monologue. Or post-twist not giving too too much away when Greta and Jeff attack and rob her. That frustrated scream. Or the “that’s how the kids wear it” part with Desi.
Ugh idk anything would be better than what they used haha. I don’t remember the other nominees’ exact clips but essentially you have Cotillard collapsing into a depressive breakdown, Jones heroically declaring she will help fight ALS, Moore screaming about losing her mind or peeing herself or something, Witherspoon embarking on self-discovery yelling into canyons, and the best performance Pike pouring coffee making it look like the most boring perfomance of the year haha it just always made me mad.February 2, 2017 at 3:13 am #1202001330
Possible Spoiler for MBTS:
I think Affleck saying ‘I can’t beat it’ was the best moment of the year for acting, but it requires the build-up before hand for it to be as powerful as it is. To show it as his clip could potentially detract from someone’s experience of seeing the film for the first time. At the same time, any part of the police station scene contains spoilers. The scene at the end with Michelle Williams will be used for her clip.
Which means that they’ll probably either use his clip finding out that he’s now Patrick’s guardian or the scene where he tries to pass his responsibilities onto somebody else. I think it should be either of these scenes, even if they don’t display his full potential.
