Funny Games by Michael Haneke
The violence just outside the frame meaning the director is manipulating your brain and senses
Irreversible by Gaspar Noe
The movie starts with the ending and Works it way back. Famous for the 11 minute rape scene with Monica BellucciOctober 31, 2020 at 2:15 pm #1203813574
I was fascinated to see Irreversible already mentioned by multiple users. In my humble opinion, it is plain trash and movies like that should simply not exist. I would call it more “offensive” than “disturbing”, though.October 31, 2020 at 2:20 pm #1203813591
Interesting to see “disturbing” being interpreted in a mostly physical sense here! My mind immediately went to the emotional and mental disturbance of something like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre or Dogville.October 31, 2020 at 2:20 pm #1203813595
The Last House on the Left really messed me up when I saw it in middle school.October 31, 2020 at 3:22 pm #1203813705

Great points, as always, babe. That extended dinner scene at the end of TCM was such a game changer. And to think they filmed all that under a hellish Texan summer. I also agree with the other poster about Funny Games.October 31, 2020 at 3:33 pm #1203813728
In my opinion, Raw, Irreversible, and Climax should not be compared to A Serbian Film, Salo, or Cannibal Holocaust. They’re very well made artistic films, whereas I would call those others exploitative bordering on torture porn. But if you do not like anxiety and turmoil, definitely continue to avoid Raw, Irreversible, and Climax.
Salò is most certainly not exploitative or torture porn. The way it is shot surveys the events depicted at a certain distance, whether or not you find merit in how it explores fascism and authoritarianism.October 31, 2020 at 3:38 pm #1203813737

I actually forgot about Funny Games. That one actually made me more purely, physically uncomfortable than Salò. (I haven’t seen Haneke’s English-language remake though.) Eerie how three of the four principal actors are now dead, all relatively young.October 31, 2020 at 7:21 pm #1203813928

Mysterious Skin. I don’t need to witness the graphic details of child sexual abuse.November 1, 2020 at 4:21 am #1203814228
Hostel was pretty unnerving. Funny Games pissed me off so much.
I just love movies. And awards.November 1, 2020 at 7:01 am #1203814367
Revenge by Coralie Fargeat. Narrative y it was nothing groundbreaking but the whole thing made me feel quite disturbed.November 1, 2020 at 7:05 am #1203814374
Funny Games pissed me off too. That shit was so frustrating
