I don’t know If this has been asked before but whatever did happened to Renee Zellweger. It’s seems like she just vanished off the face of the earth. The last film she was in was Case 39 back in 2010 (I had too look that up because nobody saw it). She’s was a talented actress and has done nothing since that film (unless she did stage work or something).February 28, 2014 at 3:05 pm #143862
The Bermuda Triangle, perhaps?February 28, 2014 at 3:17 pm #143863
She ran away and is hiding behind a big rock. Showtime should go look for her.February 28, 2014 at 3:28 pm #143864
Poor Renee. She’s a skilled actor who made flop after box office flop in succession. I dont blame her for taking this break (enforced or otherwise).
I think she’ll resurface. Even if it’s a small role, she needs some critical acclaim for it and in a film which makes a profit. Obvious yes, but I think she’ll do it.February 28, 2014 at 3:28 pm #143865
I asked this very question in the “Whatever happend to Marion Cotilard as a lead actress thread” a few days ago.
I think she had the same plastic surgeon as Jessica Lange. Her face got kind of messed up so she’s going to have to lay low until her surgery settles.
Also she hit middle age which is difficult for any actress.February 28, 2014 at 3:33 pm #143866
This is a topic that actually merits a “whatever happened to….” title. Yeah, Zellweger’s bad plastic surgery has made her look completely different. Her trademark squinty eyes are gone, as we saw at last year’s Oscars. Plastic surgery really is a damned if you do damned if you don’t conundrum.February 28, 2014 at 3:36 pm #143867
Well, she presented at last year’s Oscars so we know she’s not dead or in hiding.
Maybe she’s pulling a Blanchett and is taking a hiatus from film only to come back in a year or two with a massive, tour de force performance.February 28, 2014 at 3:39 pm #143868
Just found this thanks to google:
Renee Zellweger “Insanely Jealous” of Cate Blanchett’s Success?
Truth rating: 1

The magazine quotes an “insider” as saying, “Every role she’s
interested in goes to Cate and it kills her; she seems insanely
So, what evidence does OK! have for its claim?
The tab cites a supposed conversation Zellweger had with a friend
over coffee in Venice earlier this month that was allegedly overheard by
Claiming the actress “looked really bummed out,” the OK! spy
concludes, “Renee is probably worried sick about her future in acting.
It sounds like she doesn’t understand it and asked her friend why no one
loved her anymore.”
The outlet’s alleged tipster, who’s also apparently a Zellweger
expert based on a single conversation, adds, “I think she’s trying
everything in her power to achieve the stardom she once had, but nothing
seems to work.”
So, is Oscar winner Zellweger really envious of current Oscar nominee Blanchett?
A source close to the star tells Gossip Cop that the OK! story is simply “not true.”February 28, 2014 at 3:45 pm #143869
I sure hope she comes back in a Blue Jasmine-esque role sometime soon. I was always a fan of hers.February 28, 2014 at 4:54 pm #143870
The difference between Renee and Cate taking a break from films is that one of them was busy running a theatre company.
Renee got her Oscar that she so desperately wanted, and then did one craptacular movie after another for the paycheck.
As talented as Renee may be, I highly doubt that she is in serious contention for the same roles as Blanchett in any year.February 28, 2014 at 5:07 pm #143871
Anybody considered mentioning drugs? Because it’s not just that she left, whenever she pops up she looks really, really bad. Last year she looked awful, not just fashion wise, but her face has been looking a little druggy for a while. Or at least a little drunky, which isn’t surprising considering that this goes way, way back to that time presenting with Jim Carrey at the Globes. I think it was the Nurse Jackie/MeMyselfIrine year, so it’s been going on for a while.
She was very, very talented obviously, so one of these days she might pop up when somebody needs a name that won’t cost that much money and it’ll be a good movie. We get one of those every other year. Seriously, was anybody betting on Helen Hunt (didn’t go away for the same reasons of course) getting a second Oscar nomination before Sundance 2012?
