No projects announced, no nominations since 2017 film year….now her longest period without a nomination. I truly expected her to head to Broadway, but nothing there. She is either about to retire or brewing up a role. Anyhow, she is missed.

I think the issue is that for someone in her position, one would have expected her to have said something – I think it would be impossible that she didn’t know about what was going on with Weinstein. On March 10, 1977, then-43-year-old Roman Polanski was arrested and charged in Los Angeles with six offenses against Samantha Gailey (a 13-year-old girl) unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, rape by use of drugs, perversion, sodomy, a lewd and lascivious act upon a child under 14, and furnishing a controlled substance to a minor – he plead guilty to the lesser offense of sex with a minor. Unfortunately, there are many powerful, famous people, actors and non-actors, that essentially look the other way because it is none of their business. It’s like Switzerland, since they are neutral, they claim they are not supporting any side (i.e., nazis in WWII or Putin). It is the survival of the fittest, the sink or swim approach, etc. I am sure all these celebrities don’t want to lose what they have achieved by meddling in. But in the case of so many of these powerful celebrities, what would they lose if they said something? This is really the main reason, there is so much inequity in the world, because few at the top are willing to fight for the good of all. I am sure this is a simplistic view of these complicated issues – I have met Meryl in NY and she is lovely but I don’t really know her.

Also she has 4 (going on 5) grandchildren, so, that’s part of it too.

You don’t know what people knew, there is no evidence everyone knew he was abusing women, and victims have defended her.
ReplyCopy URLI’m not trying to start anything but whether coincidental or not, I noticed she kinda has been keeping a low profile after that Harvey Weinstein (“she knew” allegations) scandal. I know she did Dont Look Up last year, but who knows maybe she’s just slowing down or preparing for a big role like you said.
She literally had The Post at the same time it was happening which she got all the nominations for and then had MM2, Mary Poppins Returns, Big Little Lies season 2, The Prom, and Let Them All Talk all before DLU- y’all are capable of checking IMDb aren’t you lmao
ReplyCopy URLThis is the same issue with Queen Elizabeth II and the British empire – nobody blames her for the looting and massacre of the colonies – people think that she didn’t know what was going on. Queen Elizabeth II was not stupid – she knew what was going on and she said nothing. Since Meryl was so intimate with Weinstein and many powerful people in the film industry, being smart (she did go to Yale), if she didn’t know what was going on, despite the fact that so many people knew what was going on, then at best she ignored the rumors and at worst she didn’t care that it was happening.
