This is clearly a big discussion point in both of the actress threads, but the Bafta results yesterday made me want to create a thread dedicated to it because it’s becoming a  real headscratcher!  Also, if anybody has talked to Oscar voters in the past weeks about this, please say what you’re hearing!

Here’s  some of our possible scenarios:

    1.  Vikander is placed in lead for The Danish Girl and Mara stays in supporting.

    2.  Mara is placed lead for Carol and Vikander is put in supporting for The Danish Girl.

    3.  Vikander is snubbed all together and Mara gets the leading nomination.

    4.  Mara is snubbed alltogether and Vikander is double nominated.

    5.  Both stay in supporting.

    6.  Both are pushed to leading.

I think we can  all agree that if Vikander gets one nomination, it will be for The Danish Girl.  I think the only way she can get in for Ex-Machina is if she gets double nominated.  Anyway, I have a feeling that the 6th scenario could play out- If the Academy does ignore the fraud completeley, we could see both of them getting into leading, especially if there isn’t enough support for Rampling, Smith, Lawrence, and Theron at this point.   The BAFTA’s did keep Mara in supporting, but I don’t know if we can believe that the Oscars will do the same.   Experts, if you’ve talked to voters about this, please post it here! I’m desperate for answers, lol!

Mara stays in supporting. Vikander wins in supporting for Ex Machina and gets nom for Danish Girl in lead. This is i think most likely scenario

I think if either of them shows up, it’ll be in Leading.  I agree that if Vikander shows up in Supporting, it’ll be as a double nod.  I think if only one of them makes the cut, it’ll also be Vikander.

I THINK THE 1ST SCENARIO IS THE RIGHT ONE : VIKANDER IN LEAD AND MARA IN SUPPORTING, THEREFORE VIKANDER WILL BE DOUBLE NOMINEE

I have been wrestling with this throughout the awards season, especially as the precursors have been no help
At all putting them in different categories inconsistently. Right now I have both getting in lead with vikander getting the double nom. I’m sort of shaky on the ex machina nom
But that category is almost barren this year so why not?

Couldn’t find room for Vikander’s performance in Seventh Son?

Both Rooney Mara and Alicia Vikander will get Supporting Actress nominations for Carol and The Danish Girl, respectively.

Ex Machina will get nominations for Best Original Screenplay and Best Visual Effects.

If BAFTA proved anything today, it is that genre and SciFi at the big awards still has a long way to go to get fully embraced.

LOL… Alicia Vikander, double nominee – for Lead Actress in Man from UNCLE and Supporting Actress in Seventh Son.

I’m hoping that they both end up lead so that there will be a moratorium on the discussion of category fraud, because Jesus y’all have been on one.
