From this year, Stallone, Rampling and probably Rylance and McAdams.
As for recent years, I can’t imagine Rosamund Pike (not a wheeler and dealer), Robert Duvall (too old), Bruce Dern (too old), June Squibb (too old, not well known), Barkhad Abdi (limited roles), Emmanuelle Riva (foreign, too old), Quvenzhane Wallis (just can’t see it), Berenice Bejo (foreign), Gabourey Sidibe (extremely limited) and Mo’Nique (“blackballed”).
It’s unfortunate that most of the actors unlikely to return are foreign or people of color, but there it is.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 4, 2016 at 7:05 am #214691Especially after her bungled opining on the race issue this year, I don’t see how Rampling ever gets nominated again. It took her 50 years just to get this far and with such swift backlash, she’d have to give a definitive performance of an iconic character just to be considered for another nomination in the future.

and Jean Dujardin
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 4, 2016 at 7:21 am #214693Well, someone above already said this, but from this year’s nominees, all of them could pop up providing they are not (long) deceased. (potential RIP’s)
Stallone may not be nominated as an Actor again, but producerwriterdirector isnt out of the question, provided he call up someone like Deakins or Ridley to ask about cinematography…..
That repellent glimpse into that dark space between Rampling’s ears may be enough to scare most film makers off. Or not.
But, who knows what can happen.

[/quote]I disagree about Dujardin. Unlike the other foreign actors mentioned, he’s used his Oscar as an opportunity to make movies with high-profile American directors like Scorsese and Clooney, and he certainly has the charisma and screen appeal of someone like Mastroianni, who scored 3 nominations over his career. It’s not a sure thing by any means, but it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if he scored another nomination sometime.
