Cruise and Pitt are two of the best there is. Like them personally or not.

I really can’t remember what worthy of even nomination-talk has Tom Cruise done in the past 10 years,

I’m not saying he should’ve gotten one recently, but him not getting one in the nineties is an absolute joke

He hasn’t been in Oscar bait roles mosty doing action movies but he’s still an extremely talented actor. Edge of Tomorrow was a really underrated movie. But his work in Magnolia, Jerry Maguire, and Born on the Fourth of July should’ve resulted in at least one Oscar win. Especially Magnolia

Amy Adams of course. I was hoping that she’d finally get a win with her Janis Joplin biopic, but it looks like that movie won’t be made.

She has 2 film release this year if I’m not mistaken. Hopefully she’ll get the nomination

    Great actors with no Oscars:
Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Joaquin Phoenix, Jake Gyllenhaal, Edward Norton, Guy Pearce, Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Gary Oldman, Jim Carrey, Bill Murray, Steve Carell, Michael Fassbender, Harrison Ford, Ed Harris, Robert Duvall, Tom Hardy, Ewan Mcgregor, Michael Keaton, Bradley Cooper, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Ian Mcellon, Oscar Isaac, Veego Mortenson

In other words, screw the academy

First of all, have you seen Johnny Depp’s last 10 films? Clearly not.

Steve Carell is not a great actor. He’s decent at best, his nomination was a joke last year.

    Robert Duvall has an Oscar.

Tom Hardy is fine, but he has to prove a lot.

Michael Keaton is not a thing. He never was, and never will be.

Bradley Cooper is once again decent, with good material. But he’s also fucking limited and average as an actor.

Bad movies recently, but depp has had great performances in the past. And he was more deserving of a nomination then Bryan Cranstons awful performance this year. Keaton was amazing in Birdman and only lost the Oscar because of politics, Redmayne is an ass kisser and one of the worst Oscar winners ever. And Tom Hardy might be the best actor on earth, take a look at his filmography. Bradley cooper is a great actor as well. Not every actor has to play a transgender, gay, civil rights, women’s rights character, etc. to be a great actor and have a performance deserving of an Oscar. But that’s how the academy sees it, so we have a list of non academy award winners better then the list of actual Oscar winners.

Hardy was great in Bronson, Locke, Revenant, and Legend. Hell he was even pretty good as Bane, and that’s in no way an Oscar caliber role, but that’s a hard character to not make a laughing stock. He was great in Warrior as well. I see this nomination as a make up for all these great performances he was snubbed for, even though I think his performance in Revenant was great in its own right. The scene where he tells Leo to blink in The Revanant and his story about finding God are Oscar worthy scenes just by themselves.

I don’t think Keaton is an all time great actor I put him on that list solely for Birdman. He deserved it for that pedromance regardless of who he was playing.

I dunno I had Keaton as 7th. I think Redmayne, Gyllenhaal, Hader (The Skeleton Twins), Fiennes, Phoenix and McAvoy (The DOER) were better.

Btw, I love your profile picture. John Travolta in “Hairspray” and the film overall are both golds.

Don’t even get me started on the Gyllenhaal snub, haha thanks man

I’m guessing Johnny Depp would be next. I know his reputation has really taken a hit over the past few years, but people still remember him fondly for Edward Scissorhands, Pirates, Fear and Loathing, Donnie Brasco, and even Sweeney Todd. If he turns in a legitimately great performance again (Black Mass was a start I suppose) I could see a narrative building around him.

    Called it!
