Denzel as long as he’s in a Best Picture nominee & sweeps the entire season.
ReplyCopy URLApril 29, 2021 at 4:59 am #1204234590I do feel that Washington seems like the most logical choice. He had already been the runner up on two separate occasions so it just seems likely he will finally get a third.
I also agree that Mahershala Ali was both lucky and cursed with those two wins because neither were really Oscar worthy. It’s a shame because I don’t think he’d be able to gain traction again even though he’s almost bound to give a worthy performance down the road.

April 29, 2021 at 7:06 am #1204234669Robert De Niro seems to have some good projects lined up so if they end up being as good as they can he might have a few opportunities to get another.
However for Denzel if Macbeth isn’t the awards player people think its going to be he as of right now doesn’t seem to have any upcoming projects which seem like award contenders
ReplyCopy URLApril 29, 2021 at 7:26 am #1204234711Hopkins won’t get a third one, he won a second one now at the age of 83 years old, and he’s been extremely lucky that at that age he got to work on terrific material like The Father, coming from an acclaimed Broadway play directed by the great playwright himself Florian Zeller.
Hanks despite the general big love for him from audiences, i don’t think he’ll ever get a third one, lots of performances that are kind of into his wheelhouse or not impressive (Bridge of Spies, Sully, The Post, A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood) and the upcoming Elvis movie doesn’t inspire me any confidence.
Penn is done, he’s over 60, washed up, and past his prime in terms of looks, acting chops, and on screen charisma. No one is clamoring for his eventual comeback, he’s not wanted or pursued by great filmmakers. And certainly there won’t be passion for giving him a third one.
The chances of the rest (Caine, Hoffman, Ali, Waltz) to me are simply non existent.
Washington in absolute first position, and maybe DeNiro as the runner-up are the only realistic chances.
ReplyCopy URLApril 29, 2021 at 7:56 am #1204234752I don´t think Ali´s chances are really dead. Yeah, he will probably need some time but I totally see him as someone that could pull a lead win with a baity transformative role or even in a project with a big director.
ReplyCopy URLApril 29, 2021 at 8:40 am #1204234794People voting Mahershala Ali, what on earth are you on about???
He’s done, he’s been lucky that he won two for “just fine” performances and he was certainly helped by the BP frontrunner status of those movies.
There’s no way he’ll ever win a third one, he’ll be very lucky if he ever gets nominated again.
Christian Bale and Joaquin Phoenix are other guys with 1 that could have a chance down the road
Washington is on his way of becoming a legendary actor, so he’s probably the only one in this list with an actual and realistic chance of snagging a third one.
Now that Ali has 2 oscars, he’ll get snubbed down the line for much better work just like Tom Hanks was. and I don’t think he’s even on Hank’s or Denzel’s level tbh. He’s another Christoph Waltz. Leo is still in his 40s and gets great roles with great directors, other then Denzel I think he would have the best chance
ReplyCopy URLApril 29, 2021 at 10:56 am #1204235065Ali doesn’t have the same star profile as Hanks or DiCaprio etc. He’s not that visible, they don’t care about him that much to think if he should win another one or not. Hence why he can win a third quite easily. In supporting. And no one will be complaining. Not to mention – what if he’s going to do something spectacular in lead (absolutely possible) – Hollywood will not deny him a win for stepping up his game.

Washington is already legendary. With his current record with the Academy it’ll be sweetened by a third win.

April 29, 2021 at 2:21 pm #1204235343I feel like Hopkins could if he wanted to and really tried to get some big baity roles, but it seems like he just want to have a good time and enjoy doing what he’s doing.
ReplyCopy URLApril 29, 2021 at 2:29 pm #1204235351I really think Daniel Kaluuya could be a 3 time winner at some point, He’ll almost defiantly win a second Oscar in lead in the next decade or 2
ReplyCopy URLApril 29, 2021 at 9:22 pm #1204235663Is it possible Denzel wins a Best Director Oscar someday? His track record so far is impressive (Antwone Fisher, The Great Debaters, Fences). He’s got “A Journal for Jordan” coming soon which might be a contender too.
