Blanchett of course. She was close to get her 3rd for Carol
I also think that Jodie Foster could get a third one. She is a legendary actress with a long career. Though she prefers to be a director, a plum role in either lead or supporting with gravitas, could lead Foster back for a 3rd time

Foster has stated she wants a 3rd. While doing promo for The Brave One. Also, I think her best bet is a really compelling supporting role.

I thought her Freak Show character was a play on Dietrich.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 12, 2020 at 11:29 am #1203701294I’d like to amend my comment and say that I can see any of Zellweger, Blanchett and McDormand win their third first. Zellweger can easily do what she did with Judy and take a break and then come back.

Swank, Waltz, and possibly Ali are all in the same position. Winning Oscars so soon one after the other (and going 2/2) makes it harder for them to get nominated again.
Blanchett of course. She was close to get her 3rd for Carol
Blanchett is an interesting case because she’s still a lot younger compared to recent 3-time winners, but she is clearly going for it with her upcoming films. If Streep doesn’t, then she could be the one that ties with Katharine Hepburn.

Zellweger’s second win happened in a season where there was clear indifference for the competition. Just like Lange for Blue Sky 2nd wins are possible when a consensus can’t rally behind an alternative.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 12, 2020 at 11:36 am #1203701326Yeah I wasn’t saying she WILL get a third but it’s not impossible either.

ReplyCopy URLSeptember 13, 2020 at 12:06 pm #1203703596Cate Blanchett winning for third is just inevitable. McDormand is also very likely. Lange can easily win if she returns to movies. If Feud was a movie she would’ve won.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 13, 2020 at 12:52 pm #1203703714Zellweger will never win a third one. She’s nowhere near as respected as the other actresses in the poll.
And lots of people were upset about her win for a movie no one saw or cared about, or a gimmicky performance that was just an impression.

You’re projecting. I saw Judy theatrically and loved her in it. Her win happens in seasons where the competition can’t solidify a consensus as an alternative.

I think the film Academy’s love affair with Lange is over. Sexualized women have a shelf life with the film side of the business. And because she has already won supporting they won’t offer her a 2nd in the category.
