Cate Blanchett winning for third is just inevitable. McDormand is also very likely. Lange can easily win if she returns to movies. If Feud was a movie she would’ve won.

I think the film Academy’s love affair with Lange is over. Sexualized women have a shelf life with the film side of the business. And because she has already won supporting they won’t offer her a 2nd in the category.

Any of them that is still alive is capable of winning a third.

Zellweger will never win a third one. She’s nowhere near as respected as the other actresses in the poll. And lots of people were upset about her win for a movie no one saw or cared about, or a gimmicky performance that was just an impression.

If this is the reason why she would never win a third then she wouldn’t have won a second either.

All she needs to do is get a transformative or juicy role in at least 5 years and then she’s got herself a third.

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", GLENN CLOSE FOR "HILLBILLY ELEGY", ANTHONY HOPKINS FOR "THE FATHER", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

You’re projecting. I saw Judy theatrically and loved her in it. Her win happens in seasons where the competition can’t solidify a consensus as an alternative.

    Bullshit

Everyone knows that Scarlett Johansson and Saoirse Ronan were way more deserving last year, especially the former who was at the “top 10 performances of the year” lists of every single critic.

That is very subjective. It is difficult to categories and divide performances in deserving etc.

The buzz was there for Zellweger last year, even before the release. And it grew over time.

If she choose to challenge herself and devote her artist talent to interesting projects, the respect will only grow from there. Zellweger already has a certain amount of respect.

Just ask Emily Blunt why she is not been nominated for anything. Blunt is well liked but maybe not that respected as an actress. Or just look what happen to Jennifer Lopez last year as well.

It took several years before Blanchett was nominated for a second time and her first win. In the mean time, Blanchett had gained so much respect for her diverse roles and projects so it was just a matter of time. After The Aviator win, she has been in the conversation for almost all her roles. And now it is just a matter of time before her 3rd Oscar is in her pocket

Hot take— Frances McDormand will win her third this year, but for producing, not acting.

Definitely a possibility if they’re passionate about her but preferring other contenders in best actress.

    That can actually happen.

Pitt won for 12 Years a Slave and Clooney won for Argo with Ben Affleck

Hotter take, McDormand will win her 3d (Acting) and 4th (Producing).

She’s coming for 2 wigs. Has the right role and the right movie. I can’t see her lose unless one of Ma/Billie/Aretha performances and movies match Nomadland acclaim. recent win shouldn’t be a problem cause AMPAS awarded quite a few recent winners (Waltz/Ali combo, Inarritu’s back-to-back).

But that was only two wins

They won’t give a third one so easily to some Frances McDormand.

How is it easy? if her performance is everything and a bag of chips than she should win her third. She’s good at picking roles and delivering so it makes no sense to hold it off because she won 4-5 years ago if she’s GOAT. Does anyone really vote going “this was so freggin amazing but she would have third and X only has 1 and Y has none so no can’t give it to her even though she is the best”? Only awards forums posters think like that methinks.

I honestly won’t be surprised if its Glenda Jackson. All she needs to do is get cast in one film in a Lead or Supporting role and imo she’ll get nominated. If her BAFTA winning performance in Elizabeth is Missing was in a film with a theatrical release she’d have easily swept.

I voted for her in the poll. She seems sharp enough to book a supporting part that the precursors will rally behind.
