Jennifer Lawrence, Viola Davis, Scarlett Johansson – The true superstars of this decade.

YES!!! What would we do without our Asian, Black, White, Mexican, Transgender, Gay, Lesbian, Bi, and Superhero QUEEN!!!!😫

All jokes aside she’s a great actress and I always look foward to seeing her in movies!!!

You might dislike their oscar win but you can’t deny that Emma and JLaw are extremely talented actresses. Just because they are young and pretty does not give you the right to undermine their success and achievements.

I stopped taking your response seriously when you invented superficial reasoning on my behalf.

Aside from her Oscar win, I dont recall Emma Stone having much of a presence this decade.

When it comes to influence, I think Jennifer Lawrence, Viola Davis and Scarlett Johansson have made the biggest impacts.

What did you mean with your post then? I’m curious because I understood the same Miss Ospencer did.

She’s in four best picture nominated films this decade (The Help, Birdman, La La Land, The Favourite), I think that’s not very usual. Also only like 10 actors / actresses got three acting nominations this decade and she’s young so I can definitely see her representing this decade…

+ Easy A, battle of the sexes, crazy stupid love and the spiderman franchise

she’s definitely in the top 3 imo

Formerly Ospencer. I'm still a huge fan of Octavia but my old username felt too specific.

Jennifer Lawrence. While she closes out the decade in a lull period no one can deny that she really did pull off an impressive feat that hasn’t really happen since Julia Roberts. Viola Davis is a runner-up since she really broke new ground for black actresses and became an icon in the process.

Julianne Moore maybe? She’s been in some impressive films this decade and racked up an impressive set of reviews.

But honestly I’d say that the likely contenders are Jennifer Lawrence, Sandra Bullock, Emma Stone, Natalie Portman, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchette, Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway.

Lawson and Stone are the two obvious front runners. Stone more in the back-half, Lawson more in the front half.

Second Tier: Ronan, Portman, Adams, Viola

Third Tier: Michelle Williams, Chastain, Larson, Robbie, Octavia

I expect Larson to make a big jump with her inclusion into the Marvel franchise over the next year, but for now she doesn’t have the ardor that Hollywood seemed to have for Emma and Jennifer at their peaks (Emma is currently still climbing).

If I had to rank my top three based on Oscar points (I give them one point per nomination and one point per win), it would be:

    1. Meryl Streep

    2. Jennifer Lawrence

    3. Tie between Amy Adams, Octavia Spencer, and Emma Stone

Saoirse Ronan. She is clearly becoming our next great actress.

Emma Stone for taking on a variety of roles in many different films, most of which are highly critically lauded.

Jennifer Lawrence for becoming one of the last great movie stars.

Cate Blanchett for further solidifying her status as one of the greatest of all time.

Amy Adams for ascending into becoming one of the finest around.

Natalie Portman for taking on highly daring work. Black Swan, Jackie, Vox Lux, Annihilation.

Octavia Spencer for becoming a true force in this industry.

Viola Davis for breaking barriers and continuing to be one of the great dramatic actors.

I’m tempted to say Frances McDormand because even though her film work has been select, she gave a performance that looms large and become our latest 2 time Best Actress winner.

They are much more of TV actors, but Elisabeth Moss and Sarah Paulson and Carrie Coon will be three of the top actors to come out of this decade.

I like expanding to TV as well. Without any bias (in fact I don’t even like most of their performances), it’s obviously Lawrence and Stone. Davis, Streep, Paulson, Hathaway, Adams and Johansson follow.

In terms of performances from actresses that defined the decade (some of which aren’t my favourites), Portman in Black Swan, Lawrence in The Hunger Games series, Pike in Gone Girl, probably Blanchett in Blue Jasmine, Danes in Homeland, Moss in The Handmaid’s Tale. I’d love to say Russell in The Americans and Coon in The Leftovers but taking into account visibility, I think they’re slightly behind the performances listed.
