I have a thing for comedic actors doing drama. I’d like to see Kate McKinnon playing someone sad, for once, in a more introspective performance.

Ray Romano is another one that I think it has great potential for dramatic roles.

Sam Rockwell, who often plays assholes, could finally play a decent person.

Olivia Colman pulling a HBC in Fight Club and playing a very American and more “modern” character.

I couldn’t agree more. I love Amanda Seyfried so I’m not that bothered about it but it was a shame to see McKinnon drop out (pun unintended) of The Dropout. I feel like there’s some sort of vulnerability or awkwardness in her acting style (even in her loud over the top SNL impressions). I guess she kind of reminds me of someone like Natasha Lyonne (who delivered both a great comedic over the top AND dramatic “lonely” performance in Russian Doll) in that sense.

I’d also love to see Kristen Wiig in a similar role.

    FYC:

"The Good Fight", "The Other Two" and "Station Eleven" in all categories, Sarah Lancashire ("Julia"), William Jackson Harper ("Love Life") and Luke Kirby ("The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel")

    1. Tiffany Haddish
    2. The Female Kevin Hart
    3. Any comedic or dramatic role with substance. Hopefully the Flo-Jo biopic does it for her.

I’d love to see Jessica Chastain actually try a pathetic, weak or just ordinary character. Not a quirky ahead-of-her-time one, or a strong villain, or a strong anti-hero, or a bad-ass soldier, or a successful person. Like seriously, I’d like to see her actually be ordinary. She’s an actor who really peeves me, honestly, but then I remember how lovely she was in Take Shelter and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby.

I have a thing for comedic actors doing drama.

Yes, me too. Honestly, please someone give Lisa Kudrow the right role. We know from The Comeback that she’ll nail in and win literally everything. For a comedic actor, she’s effortlessly heartbreaking.

I’m thinking of the actors I stan & I had to really think about this because I personally think they’ve plumbed their ranges so incredibly but here’s what I came up with:
    – Marion Cotillard, even in some of her most down-to-earth French films, is generally the glam one! That’s why Two Days, One Night was so great. I want to see her do that hardscrabble grit more.

    – I’d love Kirsten Dunst as somebody incredibly unfeminine or butch. She does this a little early on in On Becoming a God in Central Florida and she played plenty of tomboys when she was young, but I’d like her to go further. Like Christina Ricci in Monster.

    – I’d like to see Emily Blunt as completely off-the-wall wacky, completely nuts. She’s played a lot of sensible characters, but to see her go well beyond The Devil Wears Prada would be a treat. The sort of thing Olivia Colman has done a LOT.

    – Viola Davis needs to do something really weird. Like Vox Lux weird, or Yorgos Lanthimos-weird. Also, maybe a role where she isn’t as willful and self-possessed. I’m betting she’d be great, but I’m just so curious because she is a very realist actor, and even when she’s played poor or servile characters, she tends to be very self-assured. I feel like she hints at her character’s insecurities but ultimately she has to put on her game face (this being basically the whole premise of her character in How to Get Away with Murder)

    Some others:
    – Shailene Woodley. Her type is honest, vulnerable, makes the best of her situation. I’d kinda like her to chew some scenery as somebody more villainous or mysterious.
    – Julianne Moore. Honestly, I don’t know if she has a type anymore, she’s plumbed her range very thoroughly, but the usual type is somebody who is very internal, thoughtful, a striver but not a loud one. I kinda would love for her to do the kind of roles Annette Bening did with American Beauty and 20th Century Women. On the other hand, Moore played against type in Gloria Bell so well.
    – Dakota Fanning. Honestly, I think she’s good but I haven’t seen her have an opportunity to be anything but…intelligent, a promising young woman. If only she got the kinds of parts Elle gets, where she can be more sexual, more internal, more scenery-chewing, more broken & tragic (like Elle!)

Justice for Passing, Tessa Thompson & Ruth Negga.

The Power of the Dog / Jane Campion / Benedict Cumberbatch / Kristen Stewart / Kirsten Dunst / Troy Kotsur

I WOULD WATCH THIS. Also, Still of the Night maybe comes close? She’s not actually the crazy serial killer though, just seems like it. And no accent.

(As for Razzie-worthy, she has plenty of Razzie-worthy films imo lol)

    3. I would love to see her do an arthouse film (no Barbie doesn’t count). Ala Under The Skin, maybe. Use her persona and do a risky film

    1. Channing Tatum
    2. The charming guy, whether it be action or comedy
    3. Another dark role, similar to what he did on Foxcatcher

    1. Tom Hanks plays the all around good guy/hero in nearly everything I’ve seen from him I want to see him play a complete psychopath like CB in American Psycho. Something on that level, just completely insane.

He does play that kind of character (along with a bunch of others) in Cloud Atlas.

    Bill Hader

    – Goofy, dumb, not in on the joke

    – Old school spy action suspense genre. A rich guy on holiday with his boyfriend in the Greek islands. Boyfriend is kidnapped (or is he?) and Hader has to negotiate with various southern European/Turkish types to get him released. On the way he has a breakdown and then an enlightenment and it’s directed by Park Chan-Wook and looks gorgeous and sort of tanned Gucci spy realness.

Bill Hader and Barry in everything (2 babka)
The Great - Elle Fanning, Nicholas Hoult and comedy writing and directing

Severance in drama series, writing, Adam Scott for best actor, Ben Stiller for drama directing, and the whole cast in supporting.

Vin Diesel as Kronk in live action Emperor’s New Groove, or even his origin story.

He usually plays the serious action hero.

I just love movies. And awards.
