Get Out will be regarded as *THE* film of 2017, whether it had a Best Pic nod or not.

Everything else will follow after that.

To be honest I think Darkest Hour isn’t great but it will probably be the definitive movie to go with teaching about Churchill (out of movies made in a time where living people actually remembered Churchill) and the definitive portrayal, similar to Lincoln, to which most future Churchills will be compared (especially if Oldman wins). That’s more certainty of mention than most of the others besides Get Out and Dunkirk which I think will be genre classics. The rest, while some are even better, could either endure or be lost in acclaimed movies of this time period…but Phantom Thread will at least always be a curiosity since I believe There Will Be Blood will pretty soon get a Godfather-like status.

I get your comparison, but we have to save a huge distance between “Lincoln” and “Darkest Hour”… “Lincoln” is a masterpiece compared to “Darkest Hour” IMO.

“Lincoln” covers much more dimensions in each character… and the film is wrapped in an unrepeatable atmosphere, plus everything it covers it does it with such an outstanding expertise. I admit “Lincoln” is one of my favorite films, even if the first time I watched it I didn’t appreciate it. Now the more I see it the more I like it.

Get Out – It was smart and was pretty damn popular. In regard to nominated films, it got the most buzz

    Or

The Darkest Hour – With makeup, Oldman’s performance, and the fact it could be an education tool.

    Or

Star Wars Episode VIII – It’s Star Wars.

    Not a Best Picture nominee.
