In my opinion, either the Best Director nominees, meaning The Shape of Water, Dunkirk, Lady Bird, Phantom Thread and Get Out, could happen, but I think The Shape of Water, Three Billboards, Dunkirk, Get Out and Call Me By Your Name or Lady Bird or Phantom Thread would have gotten in.

Call Me By Your Name, Dunkirk, Lady Bird, The Shape of Water, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri would’ve gotten in, IMO.

Darkest Hour Get Out, The Post, and Phantom Thread would’ve been snubbed, IMO.

I think one of these would’ve been snubbed to make room for Darkest Hour. Traditionally best actor frontrunner’s movie had a very strong showing at the nominations. My guess would be Lady Bird as they probably would think that the director nomination would be enough to avoid a backlash.

Lmao Darkest Hour would not get in for a prestigious five. It would be The Shape of Water, Three Billboards, Get Out, Lady Bird, and Dunkirk. And I think TSOW still would’ve won without the preferential ballot.

    3 Billboards
    Dunkirk
    Shape of Water
    Call Me By Your Name

Lady Bird and Get Out terrible performance at BAFTA/AACTA suggests they’re weak enough to get bumped out

I don’t see how CMBYN would get in over Lady Bird just because it did well at BAFTA. Darkest Hour also did well there (over Phantom Thread, Lady Bird, Get Out) but that doesn’t mean it would’ve been among the top contenders at the Oscars. Lady Bird was much more consistent than CMBYN in nominations and wasn’t snubbed in one category while the latter was snubbed in several.
