Knives OutMarch 17, 2021 at 9:20 am #1204140718LaKeith Stanfield to me will almost certainly get a second nomination. Vanessa Kirby too. They both seem to garner a lot of respect amongst their peers for not only their performances but their prior work in television and in Stanfield’s case film too. I’d argue they can even win this decade and in fact both could be nominated again next year for The Harder They Fall and The Brutalist.
Steven Yeun is a possibility too. His star has only risen with Minari and he feels like he’s in demand now.
Riz Ahmed is an interesting one. He’s someone who seems to be a bit like Olivia Colman and Jodie Comer in the sense that he doesn’t care about primarily committing to film roles. He’s open to doing anything from a British miniseries to a blockbuster. He could happen again soon like Colman has for The Father (and could go for The Lost Daughter next year) but I’d put him below the other three for now personally.
After that it becomes more interesting. Call me out if I’m wrong in a few years time but I find it hard seeing Sacha Baron Cohen, Andra Day or Yuh-jung Youn getting another nomination (if the latter two win the Oscar then I might change my mind). Maria Bakalova depends on if she wins the Oscar because for some reason I get a Marisa Tomei feeling with her (she breaks through with an unconventional Oscar nomination/win and is offered more roles following her breakthrough). Amanda Seyfried has been delivering strong work in small Indies (see First Reformed) for a while now and this is her big prestige breakthrough so I can see her getting offered more roles on the back of her nomination in a similar way to how Charlize Theron was on the back of her win for Monster.
All Leslie Odom-Jr. needs to do is book a big role in a beloved musical and he’ll probably get a second good. I do not know how to comment about Paul Raci’s future chances.

11. Paul RaciMarch 17, 2021 at 9:41 am #1204140767Everybody here can get a second nomination. Even if you think an older Asian actress has it difficult, there’s Norma Aleandro who was snubbed one year and still found a nominated role the next. Or Anthony Hopkins getting back to back noms (and a close win) 23 years after his last nomination and in his 80s.
And you know, “second ACTING nomination” should be added, because as we know one person isn’t a first timer and another already got his second.

11. Paul RaciLakeith has been doing good work for years now so it was only a matter of time before he started getting some award recognition
Steven in my opinion should probably already be a supporting actor winner for Burning so if he continues doing what he’s doing he’ll most defiantly get more
Vanessa has made a name for herself recently coming off The Crown so if she keeps taking good roles she could get a few more
Amanda has had some good performances in some good films but she also makes some shit so it depends what she decides to do
Riz is for sure good enough to get more but it seems like he doesn’t care to go for typical baity roles and does more obscure films and tv which could unfortunately prevent getting more
Leslie could also get more if he takes the right roles and keeps making films
Sacha is completely unknown for me, he can be good at times and has shown he can give good performances but his whole style and career seems so far removed from what usually gets recognized
Andra Day could just be a one and done type of deal like Diana Ross who was nominated for portraying Billie Holliday too. If she doesn’t make more movies and focuses more of music then i doubt she could be. But she could always be like Cher and build up a film career alongside her music one too.
Youn Yuh-Jung is a highly respected and established actress in Korea so she clearly has the ability to give award worthy performances again, so its just a matter of how much the west pays attention to her
Maria I cant really see getting more nominations but she may utilize her current stardom and nomination to establish herself a career so who knows
And Paul I cant see getting any more because he seems like despite this nomination he wont care for trying to get anymore, I doubt the Academy Awards are enough of a deal for him to try and become some academy darling
But overall who knows they could all get more and win some down the line. Back when Melissa McCarthy got her first nom I never would have thought she would get another so anything could happen
ReplyCopy URLMarch 17, 2021 at 12:25 pm #1204141250Lakeith obviously. But I also have a good feeling about Seyfried. Not that confident about Kirby. Yeun is getting a mretty solid filmography so I wouldn’t be surprised. As one user said, Ahmed is a wild card so I don’t know.
I don’t see the rest getting other noms, even if Andra or Youn wins.
