Two of the most controversial Best Picture winners ever. I consider Green Book worse because Crash at least hits on a basic emotional level that I won’t deny clicks with me.March 15, 2020 at 3:46 am #1203381796
I actually voted for CRASH.
I still found myself at least finding GREEN BOOK watchable (probably wouldn’t think as lowly of it had it not won Best Picture…it shouldn’t have even come close to a nomination. It was a 3 star movie at best.
CRASH may have had strong sentiments but I just found it to be overwrought and a chore to sit through. I recently revisited a few scenes and was reminded again how crazy it was that this film’s script has Oscar’s stamp of approval.

Green Book beat Roma, Crash beat Brokeback Mountain, hence the real resentment belongs to Crash.March 15, 2020 at 5:01 am #1203381812
I can accept that GB beat ROMA, but I can’t stand with the fact that Crash beat BBM.

Crash is unwatchable. GB has charming leads. Also, BBM is an actual good movie. Time will come when people will admit Roma was a self-indulgent bore with some terrible acting and it only got traction cause of the Wall. Remove politics and nobody would care.March 15, 2020 at 6:05 am #1203381827
Don’t tell anybody I said this, but they were both good.
Green Book, however, was better.

Crash beat Brokeback Mountain.
Green Book beat ROMA.
Both are one of worst winners ever but at least Green Book is watchable.

I think Crash did a better job of dealing with race relations than Green Book, which was basically a magic negro movie.March 16, 2020 at 9:39 am #1203382863
Thoughts on Green Book: Personally, I loved it. It’s a fun film, and I had an absolute blast seeing it in the cinema in 2018. I personally don’t think it deserves the hate it garners at all. In regards to Roma, even though it was a visually stunning film, I thought the plot was paper thin. It took me a few tries to get through it.
I know I’m in the minority, but in the weak year that was 2018 cinema, Green Book more than deserved the win.
