Saoirse is the queen of bad choices ; on chesil beach and the seagull two romantic dramatic films who came the same year who also starred the same actors. lately ammonite looks the sequel for little women , her character has the same hair. tim has made more good choices and it has made him playing dune , that could bring him out of box office flop area unlike saoirse.

Lol you do realise that if Saoirse gets nominated this year she will have the same amount of acting nominations that Leonardo DiCaprio had at the age of 41…

FYC OSCARS : VANESSA KIRBY FOR "PIECES OF A WOMAN", GLENN CLOSE FOR "HILLBILLY ELEGY", ANTHONY HOPKINS FOR "THE FATHER", CHADWICK BOSEMAN FOR "MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM", PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN (BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY).

lmaoooo u tried it boo. she had 4 oscar nods at the age of 25 and she’s definitely respected in the industry. and i’m dying at the part where you compared little women to ammonite because of saoirse’s hair 💀💀💀

I am excited for this one. BUT I don’t think it will crack the Oscars acting wise.

None but if it were to, maybe Charlotte Rampling? Unless she is literally in one scene, I’m not too familiar with the source material. But anyway, it doesn’t really have a chance to get in for acting at all.

From memory her character has two pivotal scenes, at the beginning and end of the novel. In a weak year anything is possible but the Academy hates sci-fi performances so she has no chance.

    FYC:

Antonio Banderas and Asier Etxeandia, Dolor y Gloria (Best Actor/Supporting Actor)
Emily Beecham, Little Joe (Best Actress)
Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren, The Good Liar (Best Actor/Actress)

Saoirse was 2nd choice for Jean Grey in Fox’s X-Men series but was looked over for Sophie Turner because she has more Instagram followers.

She dodged a fucking bullet there but she clearly isn’t opposed to doing a big franchise and if MCU X-Men would be a perfect opportunity if she chooses.

The way she dodged the very bullet they shot themselves in the heart with…. Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey was physically painful to watch.

Apparently she was even among the contenders for the role of Yelena in Black Widow, then won by Florence Pugh. So she’s definitely not someone who is adverse to paycheck roles in blockbusters.

Plus, Jennifer Lawrence too got four nominations at the age of 25 years (and she was even younger), and then she faded out.

I can expect the same from Ronan.

Lawrence has 4 nominations, spanning ages 20-26. Saoirse has 5, spanning ages 13-25. But either way, Lawrence’s position in the industry was wildly different from what Saoirse’s is now. She skyrocketed to fame on the backs of the Hunger Games, which made her a superstar, she was known for her celebrité, she was, like Timothee, a celebrity’s celebrity and not an actor’s actor. I’m pretty sure she insisted on leaving the X-Men prequels because they wouldn’t give her a bigger role. She tried to reclaim her critical rep with movies like Red Sparrow and Mother!, but they just weren’t good. There were also other press related factors involved in her decline from the peak of stardom. Super popular YA franchises ending has always pushed their stars, once the most popular and talked-about people in the world, towards obscurity. She was over-exposed, and the internet started turning on her. She has also been, and I hate to even say this, part of the Weinstein Co. line of actresses, and that played a huge role in boosting her at the Oscars.

Saoirse is known, reputed, and respected for skilled performances in artistic movies. Her slow and steady rise to popularity can only be credited to the quality of her movies and singular talent. Plus she has special working relationships with universally respected/beloved directors Gerwig and Anderson. For every Marvel audition, she’s also done acclaimed indie movies like Loving Vincent.

    rubbish

Putting the Ronan/Lawrence debate aside, I really don’t think any Actor from Dune will be nominated. But Zendaya probably has the best shot, after the windfall of support she’s received from her surprise Emmy win, although I think her big breakthrough at the Oscars will be next year.

Poor Timothy tried all sorts of Oscar baity movies after CMBYN- Beautiful Boy, that one with Woody Allen that nobody saw, the King, and now Dune- all turned out badly for him and all were ignored by critics and the public.

Beautiful Boy didn’t turn out that badly for him seeing as he got major awards recognition for it, only losing the Oscar nod at the final hurdle. He played damage control with the Woody Allen flick by donating his salary to anti-sexual assault charities (a whole other kettle of fish I won’t get into now), and reteamed with Greta Gerwig in Little Women. Along with Saoirse Ronan he joined the cast of Wes Anderson’s next movie The French Dispatch which will probably be critically acclaimed when it finally gets released. And Dune might even be good regardless of whether it flops. I’d say he’s doing fine considering it hasn’t been all that long since Call Me by Your Name.

The oscars are way too political to be an acting statement.

I won’t get too involved in this Saoirse/Jennifer argument, I’ll just say that the films Saoirse is doing are completely different to those Jennifer was doing in her prime.

Also, Timothee is doing just fine. Like someone said, he only missed the Oscar nomination for Beautiful Boy. And getting Oscar nominations for a man in his 20s is not easy anyways. There’s a reason why Chalamet, Patel and Hedges are the only men born in the 90s to have Oscar nominations.

Answering the main topic of this thread, none will get nominated simply because Dune is not that kind of film.

Rebecca Ferguson has the best shot because the role is a co-lead with Chalamet so they can fraud her into supporting. The character has the most range so I’d say this is the best acting shot.

Chalamet’s character is a cipher so unless they re-write him considerably, he’d need a very weak Actor field to get in. He does have about 3 big Oscar clips the biggest being near the end of the movie (where I expect part 1 to end based on scenes shown in trailers).

Since supporting field is already overcrowded with all the Chicago 7 boys, it’s hard to see room for Dune boys. if I’d be pressed than, based on the book, Stellan and Bardem in that order. Show stealing roles.

Unless Zendaya’s role is massively re-written, zero chance. The character is just a zealously devoted baby mama. There’s really nothing to Chani than her devotion to Paul. Standard feisty love interest without character arc.
