Ian McKellen (arguably win-worthy for both his nominations), and Ralph Fiennes (surprisingly not recognised since the 90s, deserving of a nod for The Grand Budapest Hotel) are close behind.

Platoon
Mississippi Burning
The Last Temptation of Christ
Shadow of The Vampire
Spiderman
Antichrist
The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Florida Project
At Eternity’s Gate
The LighthouseIt’s Dafoe, he’s more overdue than Depp or Norton, and it’s not even close.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 31, 2020 at 7:46 am #1203677469Jake Gyllenhaal! The fact that he hasn’t been nominated since Brokeback is a travesty. Should have atleast 5 nominations at this point and 2 wins for Nightcrawler and Prisoners as he gave better performances than Redmayne and Leto respectively.
Nightcrawler, Brokeback Mountain, Zodiac, Prisoners, Enemy, Stronger, Donnie Darko, End Of Watch, Nocturnal Animals, Jarhead, I can continue.
August 31, 2020 at 8:29 am #1203677567Norton. He should have two oscars, for American History X and Primal Fear.
Then Dafoe.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 31, 2020 at 9:22 am #12036776771. Willem Dafoe should have won for the Florida Project and last year for the Lighthouse.
2. Jake Gyllenhaal should have swept for Nightcrawler.
3. Ralph Fiennes was robbed for Schindler’s List (and so was Liam Neeson).

I agree that Dafoe is overdue however he did NOT deserve to win over Pitt, Pesci or Pacino. And Rockwell just gives a better performance than him in 3BB too.

For me this year he was #1. Followed by Pesci, Pacino, Pitt, and Song (and Hopkins). But it was close.
With Rockwell, it could have gone either way and I am regularly switching between the two but today I was feeling Dafoe.

ReplyCopy URLAugust 31, 2020 at 1:52 pm #1203678334Norton. his 1996-1999 filmography and performances was better than Russell Crowe’s 1999-2002 run even if the Oscars think otherwise.

I would include David Lynch’s Wild at Heart in this list as well.

Just made the connection why you selected him. She said he was her best on screen kiss.
ReplyCopy URLAugust 31, 2020 at 10:46 pm #1203679411Are you guys suggesting that Dafoe is the male equivalent to Glenn Close?
