Inspired by @mateil’s topic, I’m asking (and wondering) about this. Looking forward to Jeremy Strong and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, if Sacha goes lead. But if he doesn’t, I think he is almost a lock for a nom in supporting (granted, if the movie is well received)

September 15, 2020 at 3:00 am #1203707619Considering what occurred during the trials, I think Sacha Baron Cohen, Yahya Abdul-Mateen, Jeremy Strong and maaaybe Mark Rylance are the safest bet, in that order.
If Sacha is considered lead, he might just miss out but if he’s going supporting, I say him and YAMII are the ones I can see being nominated.

Then I would say Mark Rylance: the AMPAS has already showed him some love and he has the “good lawyer” role, which offers good/inspiring speeches AKA Oscar clipsReplyCopy URLEdgar Pereira

That is what I’m thinking. Especially if he wins the Emmy this sunday, it could give him a boost. I’m rooting for Jeremy, but the competition is high!

September 15, 2020 at 10:05 am #1203708088Strong. At the very worst he’ll end up having the awards run Claire Foy did for First Man.

September 15, 2020 at 10:49 am #1203708201I may be coming off as a Succession stan, but Strong easily. The transformative aspect of his performance will definitely help him out.

September 15, 2020 at 10:57 am #1203708212Quite confident to put Strong in the first place and Redmayne in the top five. I mean as a predictor, we can just predict blindly while there are still abundant performances not oscar-baity enough to be clearly seen by us. I guess we should just wait for the movie coming out

ReplyCopy URLSeptember 15, 2020 at 3:07 pm #1203708751For what I’ve seen in the trailer… I can see Baron Cohen as weak lead contender and Strong (I bet he has a showy character) and Yahya in supporting.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 15, 2020 at 3:26 pm #1203708771I feel like this movie might be a bust (awards-wise at least). Sorkin dialogue doesn’t really seem to fit this type of story and we’ve already seen he’s only an ok director.

This is just speculation. And Molly’s Game may just be the warm-up before we see what may very well be an even better film.
