Shoot me, but I don’t understand all this gushing over Laura Dern’s role in “Marriage Story.” As usual, she’s just portraying Laura Dern … again. Fifty years from now do you really believe that anyone will watch that “performance” and gasp, “Wow! Now THAT’s a great role!”?January 17, 2020 at 3:02 pm #1203289811
Career Oscars have been a thing for a while now and that’s exactly what Derns is.January 17, 2020 at 3:05 pm #1203289823
Laura Dern, Marriage Story
Saoirse Ronan, Little Women
Anthony Hopkins & Jonathan Pryce, The Two Popes.
Have a great day if you see this!

Both Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver in Marriage StoryJanuary 17, 2020 at 3:35 pm #1203289851
The fact J-Lo was not nominated (who should of won imo) over Laura Dern getting a nomination for a role where she literally acts like EVERY single character she has ever played & is gonna win is a big YAWNJanuary 17, 2020 at 3:41 pm #1203289853

The Irishman. Bah. So boring. And bad casting. And who thought using CGI to make really old actors look younger was a good idea? Their body movements and stiffness betray their true age. Scorsese has already made this movie before and it was better the first time (Goodfellas).January 17, 2020 at 3:42 pm #1203289857This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.January 17, 2020 at 3:45 pm #1203289859
I mean, it’s obviously well made, but The Irishman feels pretty overrated to me. It’s just another mob movie and this time they’ve cgi’d some faces. Joe Pesci’s is the only performance that even seems worthy of distinction.January 17, 2020 at 3:46 pm #1203289861
I love Laura Dern (and she deserves ALL the acclaim), but I agree here with “Marriage Story.” I actually thought her performance in “Little Women” was much better. She was so enduring with such little material in “Little Women.”January 17, 2020 at 3:47 pm #1203289863
Marriage Story and its leads. It’s so enjoyable that Dern is getting all the attention for her really small role while the overrated leads don’t.January 17, 2020 at 3:49 pm #1203289865
Little Women. It was a sturdy, serviceable adaptation with an outstanding cast… but I think the ’94 version had more soul (and a comparably outstanding cast).January 17, 2020 at 3:58 pm #1203289872
Quite. An underwhelming start to the decade. This category has mostly shined for timeless performances (Marcia Gay Harden, Mo’Nique, Patricia Arquette). I remain hopeful for Kathy Bates to pull off a Mark Rylance upset!
