The Young Victoria (nom GG / CC)

The Girl on the Train (SAG / BAFTA nom)
A Quiet Place (SAG winner)
Mary Poppins Returns (GG / CC / SAG nom)March 29, 2021 at 12:50 pm #1204164420Everyone knows I think she’s great in pretty much everything but I’d like to draw attention to her performance in Into the Woods. To me, it’s her most complex and nuanced turn to date and she absolutely should have won the Globe for it. She converted “Moments in the Woods” into a showstopper through the sheer honesty she provided it.

March 29, 2021 at 12:53 pm #1204164429Sicario. She should have WON Best Actress that year.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 29, 2021 at 12:56 pm #1204164442Haven’t seen Young Victoria or Sicario in quiet some time so can’t judge but for the rest. Honestly, all of them. She’s great in all of them but 2018 / Poppins is the only lineup I’d argue were the final five is all stronger than her.
She even got any traction for it at all but I’d also nominate her for Edge of Tomorrow as well.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 29, 2021 at 1:06 pm #1204164471Sicario, definitely, and it’s easy to nom her by taking out Lawrence for Joy. I’d have awarded Blanchett or Rampling before her that year, but it’s the closest I’d have her to a win. She’s great in My Summer of Love, too, although I don’t know if she’s Oscar-great, similarly she’s excellent in Edge of Tomorrow but I don’t know if she’d be in my Top 5. Devil Wears Prada, maybe, although that’s a pretty solid year in the category – I just now learnt Streep was nommed in Lead for that film, which is a surprise, I remember her as much more of a supporting player… I think she’s sure to get a nom sooner rather than later, and certainly has the ability to win if given the right project.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 29, 2021 at 1:08 pm #1204164478She’s phenomenal in Sicario. She’s also better in A Quiet Place than a few of the nominees in supporting that year.

I doubt the Academy would keep on ignoring them.
ReplyCopy URLMarch 29, 2021 at 1:13 pm #1204164496A Quiet Place would have been a great opportunity for the Academy to hack away a little bit of the genre bias that pervades the acting categories. It sucks for Emily Blunt because she mostly does genre work that doesn’t get Academy attention even when it should.

Came here to say the same thing. She was so beyond amazing in Into the Woods.

It’s not that Academy friendly but still accessible I would say. Anyways a Blunt sweep is coming when she gets the right film and she will win on her first Oscar nomination period.

Put Wes Anderson in instead of Nolan and then we’ll talk.
