I feel privileged to have predicted both of these

    Anthony for sure.

Both were unexpected but Olivia had a Globe and BAFTA backing her up, Anthony only had BAFTA. He was also going against one of the biggest narratives of recent memory.

Hopkins over Boseman for sure but at least they lost to people who are deserving of it.

Colman had Globes, Critics, and BAFTA.

Hopkins won only BAFTA, it’s Hopkins

Once I saw The Father, I knew Hopkins would win the Oscar. How can anyone have challenged him?

I thought Glenn had the Oscar. Outside of the “overdue” factor, I thought she was amazing in The Wife.

Just looking at the data, yes, Hopkins had less precursor support, but I feel that this time more people were expecting the upset. We learned from Colman, plus I feel that the support for Hopkins was increasing as more people saw the movie, which was peaking during the last weeks

Hopkins over Boseman, no question, largely because The Father broke so late. Colman was basically the frontrunner through the critics run in 2018 and 2019. The only thing she didn’t win was the SAG. Boseman, on the other hand, fared well with critics, won everything except the BAFTA leading up the award, and was seen as such a sure thing that the producers of last Sunday’s ceremony oriented their entire schedule around a Boseman win.

I am mixed on this one. Statistically, it makes a lot of sense why Colman won over Close though at the time, I honestly felt that Close was going to take it.

Hopkins was more of a gamble and yet thanks to the Colman situation, I felt compelled to predict Hopkins this time.

So I suppose Hopkins is, when comparing both, the biggest upset but I was certainly more surprised by Colman at the time.

She did not, she also lost critics choice to glenn & gaga.

Close — her acceptance speech at the Globes was legendary. The Academy owes her — so her defeat at BAFTA was expected. Her defeat at the Oscar is an ugly reminder how much they take her for granted.

Boseman’s death propelled his campaign and early precursors support. By the end of the extended season his momentum had lost traction to Hopkins who gave the superior performance in the superior movie.

She won Comedy Actress at Critics Choice.
