The film’s working title is Wheat Germ. Filming starts this June in Northeast Ohio, and will last for about 7 months.
ReplyCopy URLApril 8, 2021 at 10:27 am #1204186391White Noise is a brilliant novel. I hope the film lives up to its source material. If it does, it could be tremendous.

April 8, 2021 at 11:15 am #1204186520Greta Gerwig is phenomenal as an actress when Baumbach lets her indulge in her idiosyncrasies (Greenberg, Frances Ha) and she also has serious acting chops independent of him (20th Century Women). I can’t wait to see her act again!

Based on this image that was a very good decision.

Mid June to late Oct according to a call for extras. Still long, but presumably the seven months being reported includes pre-production.
ReplyCopy URLApril 9, 2021 at 7:52 pm #1204189132Yeah honestly, even though Baumbach makes some of my favorite kinds of movie, I’m honestly most excited for Greta. This feels like a baity movie for Driver (though considering he plays a guy that studies Hitler, I doubt the Academy will bite too hard), but a supporting Oscar nod play by Greta will be, in a word, great-a.

It’s satire, and given that just last year the Academy awarded someone playing a murderer I don’t think the character’s chosen subject will be too much of an issue.
And I would say they’re both Lead.

And I would also guess that many Academy voters are familiar with the source material itself (a lot more than many posters here, anyways) and are open to being receptive to it so long as he pulls it off.

Precisely. He’s not like a right-wing nut who studies Hitler, the book and the character are designed to expose the ridiculousness of this sort of overly-precious education type.
ReplyCopy URLApril 10, 2021 at 1:55 pm #1204190447The question is, will this be finished in time for 2023 Oscars, or will it have to wait until the 2024 Oscars? Because this seems like something that Noah will have to take his time on due to its complicated storytelling, and he is notoriously slow with post-production.

Yeah he’s pretty slow, Marriage Story was over a year between wrapping and being released, but this is marked 2022 on IMDB so I imagine they’re aiming for fall next year.
ReplyCopy URLApril 10, 2021 at 6:25 pm #1204191126He (rightfully IMO) turned down Hook in Peter Pan&Wendy and supervillain Kraven in Sony’s Kraven. Villian typecasting (isn’t he a villain in The Last Duel too?) plus he would be wrong for Kraven anyway. Also, 65 doesn’t sound like a bait and that zombie comedy with Swinton and Murray and Logan Lucky weren’t baits either. But because he had a string of movies bakc to back that ended up with AMPAS noms, that created perception that he’s only cast in baits. Personally, I would like him to do something like Shame and Boogy Nights. He has certain goods that should be seen.
Adam Driver is full naked in The Last Duel. People are comparing him with Michael Fassbender
ReplyCopy URLApril 12, 2021 at 4:12 am #1204195298Agreed! I thought she was fantastic in Frances Ha and she should have won the Comedy Actress Globe.
Greta acting again is the main reason I’m excited for this movie.
ReplyCopy URLApril 12, 2021 at 4:19 am #1204195306Yeah it’s really challenging material to adapt and I’m interested to see what this group of people does with it. We also know that Driver and Gerwig play well off each other – they were great in Frances Ha.
Have you read the book? After reading the synopsis, I’m intrigued to see how the film turns out.
Driver appeared on the Popcorn Show with Peter Travers in 2019, and he told him it was difficult for him to take breaks between projects and it might be a Midwestern thing. Do you think he might end up overexposing himself? He’s pretty much worked with most of the best directors out there in a short period of time. The only big-name ones that come to mind that he hasn’t worked with yet are Tarantino, Fincher, and Nolan.
