Have you read the book? After reading the synopsis, I’m intrigued to see how the film turns out. Driver appeared on the Popcorn Show with Peter Travers in 2019, and he told him it was difficult for him to take breaks between projects and it might be a Midwestern thing. Do you think he might end up overexposing himself? He’s pretty much worked with most of the best directors out there in a short period of time. The only big-name ones that come to mind that he hasn’t worked with yet are Tarantino, Fincher, and Nolan.

I have, yes. Difficult to adapt as a lot of it doesn’t have a ‘plot’ in the traditional sense, and it’s not material I would immediately associate with Baumbach but I can see both Driver and Gerwig doing well with their characters.

As to Driver’s work ethic – he comes from a pretty working-class background so I guess it’s not too surprising that even though he now can take time off if he wants, he’s seemingly not wired that way. I don’t know if after White Noise he’s going to do that new Jeff Nichols or if that is still in development.

I can’t see him working with Fincher after what Fincher said about him those leaked emails, haha. I did read an interview where he said he wanted to work with PTA though, which I would definitely like to see.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Fincher’s comments about him in the Sony emails! I think he also said once he’d like to work with Pedro Almodovar, but his movies are only in Spanish. I’m excited to see Gerwig and Driver’s performances, and also to see Baumbach working on something that as you said, isn’t necessarily associated with him.

I won’t be surprised if the Jeff Nichols movie doesn’t happen. He got attached to A Quiet Place spin-off  last fall which already has a release date. There have been no updates on the Yankee Comandante film since the trade reports from April 2020.

Fincher literally explained that he was joking and that he said it to avoid an annoying question from a studio executive at the time.
There’s no bad blood between the two of them and it’s not true that Fincher doesn’t like him.

My comment was partly in jest but I appreciate that might not have been clear.

I think it’s possible that the AQP movie shoots pretty soon given that it’s already been dated for 2022 and Nichols moves on to YC after that once Driver is available. But it’s likely a very complex project so I wouldn’t be surprised if there hasn’t been much movement on it since it was announced, given everything that’s happened this last year.

It’s likely to be one of those films where the performances will be great, but the tone may not be Oscar-friendly. Driver’s role is more significant as his character narrates the novel (there is one scene in particular I cannot wait to see him do) but both could be sunk if the film’s odd and satirical tone doesn’t land. The young actors playing Heinrich and Denise (two of the many kids) will have some good bits for Supporting.

Adam Driver is full naked in The Last Duel. People are comparing him with Michael Fassbender

He’s not. It’s a huge spoiler so I cannot elaborate except in PM/DM but someone who legit saw the movie confirmed that talk about his nudity was exagerated and put in the wrong context too.

Raffey Cassidy is in talks to join the film, most likely as one of the four children: https://deadline.com/2021/04/raffey-cassidy-sam-and-may-nivola-noah-baumbachs-white-noise-1234734281/

Cassidy is 19 going on 20 and Sam Nivola is 17. Driver and Gerwig are both 37. I haven’t read the book, but I’ve seen people on social media saying  Cassidy and Nivola’s characters are much younger in the book (the one Nivola is going to play is apparently 14). Are all the kids integral to the story or only two of them?

Presumably Cassidy is playing Mary Alice, who is Jack’s oldest child and is 19 – she’s not a particularly significant role in the book but they may be beefing her up a bit. The next oldest daughter is only 12 so that seems a stretch.

Sam Nivola’s character is presumably Heinrich, the 14 year old son – he’s the most significant of the kids I would say.

May Nivola could be playing one of three kids – the 12 year old daughter, the 11 year old daughter or the nine year old daughter (she’s 11 IRL I think). The most notable of those options is Denise, the 11 year old, so I think that’s probably the one.

Worth noting for those who haven’t read it that while Jack and Babette are married, all of the kids are from previous relationships/marriages. There are six kids in total (four are Jack’s, two are Babette’s) but only four live with them. Given that they have cast Cassidy I assume they are casting all six, as both of the characters she could potentially play (the oldest two daughters) are the kids that live elsewhere.

They could also just change all the kids ages, I don’t think that would be too offensive even to book purists and both Driver and Gerwig are a few years younger than the people they’re playing.

Thanks for the info.  Is it revealed why Jack’s three marriages didn’t last or is that ignored? And why are his kids the only ones living with them? Why don’t Babette’s kids live with them too?

All the previous wives are mentioned or appear in the book. Babette is his fifth marriage but his fourth wife (he was married to the same woman twice). And Babette’s kids do live with them – the two kids that don’t are two of Jack’s, and then two of his kids and both of Babette’s live with them.
