A biographical film about Whitney Houston that is being written and produced by Anthony McCarten appears to be moving forward pretty fast. Stella Meghie, who just did The Photograph, is set to direct.
With McCarten writing the script, then whoever will end up playing Whitney is sure to get some Oscar buzz. Speaking of which, who would you like to see star?April 22, 2020 at 2:03 pm #1203441609
This would be the perfect role for her to finally get recognized and receive some awards attention. Very happy that Whitney’s family is backing this. Hope it pays a beautiful tribute to her legacy.April 22, 2020 at 3:14 pm #1203441765
Hopefully “I Will Always Love You” will be a big moment in the film, as that’s my personal favorite Whitney Houston song. Let’s hope it’s not cut down to a small snippet like “Candle In The Wind” was for Rocketman.April 22, 2020 at 4:12 pm #1203441844This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.April 22, 2020 at 7:54 pm #1203442314
the only whitney houston biopic i want is one that tells the truth about her romantic relationship with her best friend robyn crawford. but knowing this is being made with the approval of whitney’s homophobic family, that will never happen. i’m not interested in half the story.April 22, 2020 at 11:50 pm #1203442696
Gugu Mbatha-Raw! This would be the perfect role for her to finally get recognized and receive some awards attention. Very happy that Whitney’s family is backing this. Hope it pays a beautiful tribute to her legacy.
no, please. I love Gugu but she can’t be fit for this. She’s too light skinned and I don’t think she can sing.
Janelle Monae will be a wonderful choice. I’ve been saying it for years. She needs to do this. If not Monae, then it should go to a newcomer

Kind of pointless really…April 23, 2020 at 5:10 am #1203443055
When I started thinking about who should play Whitney Houston, the first person that came to mind was Ariana DeBose. She’s a Tony nominated actress for her performance in The Donna Summer Musical, was in the original cast of Hamilton, and is playing Anita in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story reboot.April 23, 2020 at 3:04 pm #1203444214This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.April 23, 2020 at 3:44 pm #1203444288

Hell no to Erivo.
It should go to Nicole Beharie.April 23, 2020 at 5:25 pm #1203444413

I don’t think having an actress who can’t sing is a problem. Angela Bassett didn’t sing when she played Tina Turner but everyone loves that performance. The way I see it, I’d rather see someone who doesn’t sing but can act the Hell out of the role rather than sacrifice acting skills to get a better voice.
I also agree, I’d like to see either Janelle Monae or an unknown. Please not Erivo. She’s got an incredible voice, but she’s yet to impress me when she’s on camera (and she constantly comes across as a self absorbed ass).April 23, 2020 at 5:33 pm #1203444429
Depending on how well Jennifer Hudson does in the Aretha biopic I feel like she could land this role too.

Erivo and Jennifer Hudson look absolutely nothing like herApril 24, 2020 at 1:32 pm #1203445818
There’s no way Jennifer Hudson can play Whitney after playing Aretha. Nor should she. She has a great voice but her acting is much less impressive. I agree an unknown would be best. Although I’m not sure I’m at all for this movie at this point in time.
