I prefer my roses whiteApril 27, 2022 at 5:05 pm #1204934994Just released photo of Naomi Ackie on set dressed in Whitney’s Star Spangled Banner outfit, recreating the famous SSB moment from the 1991 Superbowl.

ReplyCopy URLSony Pictures’ Whitney Houston biopic starring Naomi Ackie has been test-screened in Las Vegas. Ackie plays the late iconic R&B singer, whose hit song inspired the title.
“I Wanna Dance With Somebody” is directed by Kasi Lemmons (“Harriet”) from a screenplay written by Anthony McCarten, the writer behind acclaimed biopics such as Darkest Hour and Bohemian Rhapsody.
“This was a standard biopic, but Naomi Ackie is amazing as Whitney. Moonlight’s Ashton Sanders was so good as Bobby Brown. Stanley Tucci as Clive Barker is also good, charming and funny, they even note Davis’ bisexuality.”
“Brown is portrayed as a little worm. They highlight that Whitney was 6 years older than him and he was trouble from the get-go. It’s all very lighthearted, until it’s not. This was penned by the same guy who wrote “Bohemian Rhapsody” but at least here he got to tell the dirty details.”
“All in all a solid 150 minute movie. Barry Ackroyd shot it. They spend a great deal showing Whitney’s lesbian relationship. Much like in ‘Bohemian’ there’s re-enactments of Whitney’s iconic musical performances and such. Those were highlights, but it’s very digitally shot, not much of an auteur movie for Kasi Lemmons, and kinda bland-looking, but I liked it.”https://www.worldofreel.com/blog/2022/4/0ccxraaltplozr6c44pbi2ejq4i118
April 28, 2022 at 4:13 pm #1204936216Do we think Sanders will be pushed lead or supporting? It could go either way.

This is exactly what I expected, word by word.
ReplyCopy URLApril 29, 2022 at 5:38 am #1204936780I’m already nervous. We know Bobby was a hot-mess but Whitney was a mess herself. They better show how her brother introduced her to drugs before she got with Bobby.

I’m guessing lead. In the vein of Laurence Fishburne in the Tina Turner biopic or Javier Bardem in Being the Ricardos. Especially since they are going definitely campaigning Tucci in supporting and maybe the actor who plays her father, I forget his name, in supporting. So they won’t throw all their three male eggs in one basket.

ReplyCopy URLMay 20, 2022 at 7:49 pm #1204958637Naomi Ackie has just been cast in Bong Joon Ho’s first film since Parasite, starring opposite Robert Pattinson, Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette.
I think people within the industry knows she does a great job as Whitney and this casting is an indication of major confidence in her abilities considering not many people knew who she was a year ago.
