Also, are we really worried because Naomi may not look exactly like Whitney? Did Margot look like Tonya? Not even close. Did Andra Day look like Billie Holiday? Did Nicole Kidman look like Lucille Ball? And the list goes on. Those are just the recent 3 that I can think of that had no resemblance to the person they were playing.

We can add Kristen Stewart in ‘Spencer’. Jennifer Hudson in ‘Respect’. Rami Malek, ecc.

I mean yes, it’s not fundamental but being physically similar counts a lot in these movies in my opinion, especially to portrait a huge legend like Whitney that had a strong physical presence (she was stunning).

I feel like most of these criticisms are based on set-photos.

Cinematography techniques have a massive impact on how an actor looks so we don’t know how Naomi Ackie will ultimately appear in the final film as captured by academy award nominated cinematographer Barry Ackroyd and the types of lenses he’s shooting with.

Elvis has done pretty good thus far but I think they forgot the most important element of Elvis’s story, something that Bohemian Rhapsody had, the music. The Elvis film in my opinion did not celebrate his music like BR. There were a bunch of songs from other artists which I did not like.

You could be right. They didn’t use his songs much

I casually enter in this thread because I see the actress getting predicted and I have to agree she’s not the right choice physically to play Whiteny, she’s not ugly at all, but she’s totally different from Whitney.

    I agree

Naomi isn’t a bad looking woman, but I’m sorry she’s no stunner like Whitney. I know actors don’t have to look like their famous subjects, but the classic beauty aesthetic was arguably a big part of Whitney’s success. She was the total package when she arrived on the scene.

I agree. Zendaya looks like a young Whitney

This. I agree. Everyone(even ugly people) looks better in Hollywood movies. Cinematography makes a huge difference

At 5’8″ (173 cm) and 141 lbs (64 kg) Whitney Houston had a BMI of 21.4

At 5’6″ (168 cm) and 121 lbs (55 kg) Naomi Ackie has a BMI of 19.5

According to these numbers, Naomi Ackie is actually thinner than Whitney Houston was.

(Although something tells me that this is irrelevant to the haters)

How do you know how much Whitney weighed in the 80s and 90s? All information on the weight of famous personalities presented on the Internet is estimated and objectively inaccurate, since weight is a constantly changing value.

All this talk about Naomi not resembling Whitney, or being thin enough, or pretty enough to play her  is super cringe. Can we just base it on the performance alone when it comes out? Let’s judge the performance. Nothing else please.

Kurt Russell does not look like Elvis in the  Elvis movie (1979). JLo does not look exactly like Selena Quintanilla in  “Selena” movie (1997)

    so.. on..

no actors can look exactly the same, if they can find someone who looks like Whitney…

how about the singing part? can they sing like Whitney?

please give this movie a chance

Are we really entering the toxic world of trying to work out people’s BMI to see if they are worthy of taking on a role now?

    Please, no.

We didn’t have it for Spencer, Judy, Elvis, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Theory of Everything, King Richard etc. but we are conveniently having it for this film…

Look, I was just pointing out that the criticisms against Naomi Ackie were unfair and didn’t make any logical sense.

The Naomi haters were saying something at odds with reality so I felt the need to correct them with some irrefutable proof they were wrong. (Which they ended up refuting anyway, because haters gonna hate)

    Knives are out on me.
