I just think Whitney Houston fans are too passionate to accept a film that’s average. There’s so little buzz around this film as it is that I don’t expect it to have a lot of defenders, and that’s what it would need coming into the race this late.

December 21, 2022 at 12:34 pm #1205204664The clip of the national anthem looked like hot garbage. I couldn’t believe it. Good riddance.

It was not as bad as I thought.
It was entertaining, fast paced.
Naomi Ackie is a star as far I’m concerned. She does not look like Whitney. But the way she talks, the way she gesticules, the way she walks we see Whitney. Her work is remarkable.
Nafessa Williams is amazing too.
The supporting cast in general is good. If you were entertained during “Bohemian Rhapsody” you might be in this one too.
Loved the last scene. I thought it was a classy move.
C as a movie. A for Naomi Ackie.December 22, 2022 at 1:45 pm #1205206438Naomi ackie is brilliant but. The script is atrocious. Ali g with the editing and direction is generic Naomi did her best with what was given. But sadly. This is almost as bad as beyond the sea
Did ackie sound and look like whitney in some parts? And how is stanley tucci

They already tried. It was worse than this

She sings in spots throughout the film. She sings the gospel song at the beginning, and she sings the beginning of the Greatest Love of All for example

C as a movie. A for Naomi Ackie.Naomi is a G.O.AT. in the making as far as concerned. Her performance was brilliant and she navigated through the different stages of her life so effortlessly. The film was not a disaster. I though it was average

ReplyCopy URLNaomi Ackie, who plays Houston, is incredible. I can’t remember the last time I saw someone so luminous on the screen. She nails Houston’s speaking voice and her mannerisms, and calibrates them through each stage of the performer’s life. You never feel like Ackie is playing older or younger than her age; she simply inhabits Houston at every moment. Especially during scenes that should feel like they were written for a Lifetime movie (of which there already has been a terrible one about Houston), Ackie taps into a vibrancy and emotional immediacy that not only stops you from cringing, but also overwhelms you with excellence.
