There’s no way Jennifer Hudson can play Whitney after playing Aretha. Nor should she. She has a great voice but her acting is much less impressive. I agree an unknown would be best. Although I’m not sure I’m at all for this movie at this point in time.April 24, 2020 at 6:04 pm #1203446206
Janelle Monáe would actually be a WONDERFUL choice!
I can’t believe I didn’t even think about her at firstAugust 4, 2020 at 10:31 am #1203626257
Sony has picked up this project, and they’re currently eyeing a release date for Thanksgiving 2022.

The Lifetime bipoic was pretty good. If it wasn’t for that, I would have volunteered Yaya DaCosta for the role.August 4, 2020 at 5:57 pm #1203627000
“I Wanna Dance with Somebody” is obviously a signature Whitney hit. But it’s not the appropriate film title to encapsulate Whitney’s life. Whitney wasn’t even a dancer….
It feels generic and lazy. Another way to sell the film’s soundtrack opposed to capturing the true essence of who Whitney was. NIPPY would’ve been better.

Ugh I just hope this doesnt end up like a Bohemian Rhapsody. Such talents deserve a worthy biopic. On the casting I hope they strictly focus on the acting and have Whitney’s singing since I dont think anyone can do Whitneys’s voice justice anywayAugust 4, 2020 at 6:44 pm #1203627043

Please keep in mind that when jukebox/biographical musicals are produced on stage, their creative teams always lets the actors do their own singing as the musicians they’re portraying. It’s been the case with Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys, Carole King in Beautiful, Gloria Estefan in On Your Feet!, etc. As for movies, if Taron Egerton was able to pull off doing his own singing as Elton John in Rocketman, then it shouldn’t be a problem if the actress playing Whitney Houston can sing.August 4, 2020 at 8:46 pm #1203627216
No. I would’ve preferred “NIPPY”.
It was Whitney’s nickname since childhood. Given to her by her father John. At Whitney’s core, that’s who she really was. A woman who never lost sense of where she came from. She valued family more than anything. So it was a pet name that Whitney carried until death.
“I Wanna Dance with Somebody” is what you name a Vegas residency or a greatest hits CD. It sounds very impersonal for a biopic on a woman who dealt with addiction as a result of trauma stemming from molestation and depression.
Nippy would have been a GREAT title.
